The Night Cat is already such a vibe as a venue – the funky décor of the vintage lamps gives an ambient red glow across the space and really creates an intimate environment. It’s already well known for its electric atmosphere and crazy moshes so I knew I was in for a ride when I saw the Belair Lip Bombs were going to play there before they set off to Europe.

It’s not unusual to have fun at Bluesfest. Especially when it’s being headlined by the one and only, Grammy-award winning Sir Tom Jones. Jones proved once again why he is and always will be an enduring legend of the music world with his headlining performance at this years’ Byron Bay Bluesfest. Despite singing about the passage of time and coming to terms with growing old, Jones brought an infectious energy and enthusiasm to the stage that belied his age, captivating the audience from start to finish (my dancing mum included).

From the second I entered the grounds of Centennial Park, a smile emerged on my face and I can tell you it still hasn’t left. The vibes were immaculate. I hadn’t seen anything like this since Soundwave 2012. An endless sea of tattoos, hair in every colour and cut imaginable, custom denim jackets covered in band patches from every era of metal and nothing but eager anticipation for each act; I was in my happy place.
