Viva La Rev, the latest offering from The Smith Street Band, is a live album recorded at the band’s last ever show at Melbourne’s The Reverence Hotel in February 2019 before the iconic venue closed its doors. The digital only release, out today, coincides with Bandcamp again waiving their fees for 24 hours to see all funds go directly to artists.

Viva La Rev is The Smith Street Band’s first release since April, when their latest studio album Don’t Waste Your Anger debuted at #1 on the ARIA Charts. It is also the second live album from the band this year, following on from Live At The Triffid which debuted at #4 on the ARIA Charts & #1 on the ARIA Australian Artist Album Charts.

The Reverence Hotel was a special place for many bands, bringing life to live music in Melbournes’ west before closing in February 2020. Viva La Rev was recorded at the second of two back to back sold out shows and was the last time The Smith Street Band played at The Rev.

The live album features two previously unreleased covers, ‘I Love It’, originally performed by Icona Pop featuring Charlie XCX and ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love’, originally performed by Elvis Presley. Check out the live clip for ‘I Love It’ filmed by Ian Laidlaw which features Natalie Foster, lead singer of Press Club, who was filling in for Lucy Wilson while she was taking time off to have a baby.
