SOFIA PERICA // THE BACKBEAT // REVIEWER
Tiktok sensation Artemas made his debut in Melbourne at Northcote theatre on Tuesday. His hit song “I like the way you kiss me” went viral this year and he has been on a roll ever since
Dropkick Murphys, probably your dad’s favourite band if you live in the inner city- is a Celtic Punk band that graced Melbourne last Sunday, coming all the way from Boston. Their sound is a beautiful concoction of traditional rock and Irish folk with a punk twist, which was a unique experience to see live.
As Sam from Ball Park Music said, there is no better way to spend your Tuesday night than to watch Lime at The Cain. I love Lime Cordiale, they always know how to put on a fantastic show.
When I got the message that I was approved for a media pass to see Inhaler at The Prince last What a once in a lifetime experience. I walked out of The Prince Bandroom ,completely elated. Their Melbourne Debut was not to be missed.
It is not many bands that I am willing to drive an hour out to Frankston to see them. The Grogan’s is in fact one of those bands.
As I walked in the doors of Festival Hall on this fine Monday night– I immediately knew I found my people. I looked amongst the crowd – and there was a sea of beautiful women with Steve Nicks-esque ‘pirate’ outfits- it was like stepping into a hippie festival in the 70s. I thought, I am definitely at a Last Dinner Party concert – reserved for the hottest and coolest people only.
‘Do you listen to Girl in Red?’
The secret code for queers alike. And the answer is yes, and you should too.
Girl in Reds’ presence in this Melbourne winter is exactly what we needed- her new album ‘I’m Doing It Again Baby!’ was an absolute must to see live at Margaret Court Arena last Wednesday.
I hopped off my 6am flight from Melbourne to Adelaide, the official Spinoff playlist playing in my headphones as I went past airport security. There was no time to be tired- a rush went through my body as I realised THAT I’M SEEING THE QUEEREST LINE UP EVER– G-FLIP, GIRL IN RED, PEACH PRC, THE LAST DINNER PARTY!
When I saw that Pisco Sour and The Noise were doing a gig together at Northcote Social Club on Kings B-day Eve- I couldn’t hide my excitement. I quickly texted my best friend and music photographer Chloe - ‘OH MY GOD IT’S PISCO AND THE NOISE- this is the dream team! We have to go!’
The Night Cat is already such a vibe as a venue – the funky décor of the vintage lamps gives an ambient red glow across the space and really creates an intimate environment. It’s already well known for its electric atmosphere and crazy moshes so I knew I was in for a ride when I saw the Belair Lip Bombs were going to play there before they set off to Europe.
Girli bursts into the music scene with her vibrant pink hair and fierce attitude to grace everyone’s ears with the most exciting and heart-wrenching album ever. Here are 4 songs from the album that struck a chord to me the most.
While I overlooked the vibes town stage with the stunning backdrop of Tassies natural beauty, I knew I was in for an adventure. Exhausted from the 4am plane ride and the 20kg loads of camping gear on our backs, we set up camp in the 30-degree heat, filled with excitement for the day ahead.
After 5 years of reclusion, St Vincent’s ethereal presence emerged from the backstage of the Palais Theatre.
Back turned to the audience; her silhouette commanded the attention of the crowd as we all sat in our seats in almost disbelief.
