SINGLE REVIEW: ZACHARY LEO - FEELS
A smooth, gorgeous base pulls us into this delicious new release from Melbourne’s own Zachary Leo. This bold blend of funk and soul has us aching along with his crooning of heartbreak and I feel like we are reminded of early Maroon 5; “Sunday Morning”, anyone?
Last year, Leo released two singles, ‘Lay You Down’ and ‘She’ which were both produced by Emmy Award winning Engineer Guus Hoevanaars.
Now, Leo has taken over the engineering/producing process and has produced this delicate single- and an upcoming EP- out of many studios in Melbourne. This guy is seriously 21 years old and is already engineering and producing his own singles. Hello, multi-talented!
The whole song is so smooth and I would consider it easy listening, purely because it’s just so gentle on my delicate little ears. Those familiar guitar licks that Leo’s fans know and love shine through his serenading, a tale of intimacy and a complicated expression of his feelings through this seemingly intricate relationship he’s having. We can hear his hurt, his vulnerability as he tries to put forth his emotions and make himself understood.
This deeply personal record shines through all of his releases thus far.
Inspiration for this song was drawn from a D’Angelo record, and based on his previous singles, it seems as though Leo is taking us on a newer trail of the roadmap of his career, branching out and developing his own modern take on that old school sound.
Feels is the first single from his upcoming EP of the same name, and we can look forward to new music from Leo very soon.
The music video for this single can also be viewed today- and from the sneak peak I was able to score, I can see that sexy, 70’s style decor as Leo’s one man show takes us back to that era of the world.
