WOLFJAY AND AUSTEN TEAM UP FOR SINGLE "VERY SOON VERY FREQUENT" - VIDEO ALSO OUT NOW
Two of Australia’s most exciting up and coming indie artists have joined forces for a shimmering, heartfelt bop.
Melbourne’s Wolfjay and Brisbane’s Austen (who having been living together during isolation) created ‘Very Soon Very Frequent’ in their sharehouse as a last minute entry for triple j unearthed’s #DIYSUPERGROUP competition.
What started as an impromptu recording session after Wolfjay heard Austen singing the chorus to herself in the kitchen, has turned into something uniquely beautiful. And now they’re giving this very special song its own official release.
‘Very Soon Very Frequent’ serves as an intimate, emotive collaboration from two exciting emerging voices, showcasing the harmony of both artists bringing together their individual sounds and voices, and completely comfortable with baring their vulnerability.
Wolfjay said of the single, "I had just gotten to New York to play my first International shows when COVID-19 hit and the festival I was there for was cancelled. We got straight on a plane back to Melbourne and went into quarantine, which was where Very Soon, Very Frequent was born. The song is about crossing paths with someone at the exact moment you can help them and they can help you, and even if it’s only for a little while, it’s exactly what you both need."
Alongside the single, Wolfjay and Austen have also shared some official visuals as well. Created in their sharehouse and the Fitzroy streets they walk down every day, it’s a reflection of what life has looked like for the pair for the last few months. Shot and directed by the pair, the video shows a warm, intimate and special insight into life — from watching the shadows stretch across their rooms as day moves into night, to stealing little moments away to break up the monotony.
Inspired by an email Wolfjay sent to a friend about the physical and emotional toll isolation was taking on them and the consequent spiral of overthinking, ‘Very Soon Very Frequent’ is like a secret you’re being invited to share in. Wolfjay was actually in the US when the pandemic really started to take off as they are signed to independent label Sleep Well Records out of Brooklyn and was set to play a series of shows which were suddenly cancelled. Austen channels a distinctly new direction with her equally vulnerable verse, offering up hushed disclosures of her changing place in the world. Together, the pair bounce off each other in harmony, delivering comfort not just to one another but to the listener as well — if only for a little while.
