Dance is a powerful and expressive form of art used to tell imaginative stories by manipulating the human body. Using this graceful expression of art, L. Flora elaborates on the message and theme within their lead single 'Poison Ivy' (directed by Jonathan Oldham).
'Poison Ivy' (released on Feb 12) has this future-soul act bringing a chilling, suspenseful energy to the table, tied together with an exotic drum beat, fluttering guitar, swelling keys, and frontwoman Millie Khalu's neo-soul vocal melodies.
The lead single 'Poison Ivy' along with L. Flora's previous releases have seen support from Triple J, Triple J Unearthed, Purple Sneakers, theMusic, AAA Backstage, Scenestr, 4ZZZ and much more.
To pair with the powerful track, L. Flora has gone above and beyond for their music video. Like a fantasy-film in an enchanted forest, the clip moves through heavenly shots of Khalu waist-deep in water surrounded by the choir in a picturesque formation to vivid footage of the potent choreography. Khalu talks about the music video:
"I didn't want any male figures (besides the band) in the music video as this isn't about a love interest, this is about a battle within myself and seeing me as the woman I am."
Pushing the contemplative story forward, Khalu is then seen performing the contemporary dance alongside choreographer Tegan Jeffrey-Rushton in both a darkened studio and on rock face by the enchanted pool of water.
Twisting and coiling with and around Khalu, Jeffrey-Rushton (in green) represents Poison ivy - a metaphor for the toxic nature of jealousy, comparison and lack of self-worth and how it entangles the mind. In an unrelenting mental battle, Khalu ends up being swallowed up and is submerged into the water by Jeffrey-Rushton.
This captivating music video is following the release of their new EP 'Heavenly' (released March 12).
