BROTH RECORDS ANNOUNCES NEW GIG SERIES ‘SOUP KITCHEN,’ FIRST EDITION ON JUNE 9 AT THE GREAT CLUB
Following last month’s launch of Joji Malani’s new independent label venture, Broth Records today announces their upcoming live music event, Soup Kitchen, taking place on June 9 at The Great Club on Midjuburri/Marrickville. Tickets available HERE.
Broth Records is a label dedicated to uncovering ambitious bedroom music, with Soup Kitchen acting as both a roster showcase and curated live event comprising the latest exciting, unsigned talent. Born from Label Director Joji Malani’s time working in hospitality, where an unassuming broth taught him a lifelong lesson in patience, judgment, and presence, Soup Kitchen is your chance to experience the label’s ethos both musically and aesthetically, live in the flesh.
A presentation of the Broth ethos and mission to serve the community and pure music discovery at its core, the artists programmed will be playing their original repertoire that will provide you with much-needed nourishment, like a Soup Kitchen. For its inaugural edition, Broth’s own Coconut Cream will take the stage of The Great Club, alongside Meteor Infant and electronic duo 700 Feel. See below for ticket info and more.
Recently debuted as the label’s first signing, Eora/Sydney four-piece Coconut Cream has turned heads with their latest single ‘Your Drug On Computers’, praised by NME, Pilerats, triple j Unearthed, FBi Radio, and many more. Unconventionally discovered via a bumble date gone cold, the group breathe fresh air into their iteration of soaring indie-rock reminiscent of Stella Donnelly, Ruby Fields, and Jay Som.
Joining them will be Meteor Infant, the musical world of singer-songwriter Liam Keenan. The Gomeroi man and performer presents his project in belonging, a balance of understanding his upbringing and connection to country, combining the influence of Wilco and Neil Young with a creative thirst to breathe new life into their legacies like Grizzly Bear, Real Estate, and Matt Corby. Hot off the heels of their self-titled album debut, local duo 700 Feel will round out the evening with their distinct take on UK garage, hip hop, dub, and house with subtle shadings of footwork and jazz, who secured the coveted FBi Radio Album of the Week last December.

ABOUT BROTH RECORDS
Broth Records is a network of musicians and creatives who together represent community, independence and pure music discovery at its core. Its ethos remains firmly planted in Malani’s interpersonal approach and a DIY mentality that could only be shaped by his near-decade tenure as a musician, formerly of Gang of Youths. This experience, born out of sheer creativity and ambition built from the ground up, is what gives Joji the means to understand the artist process first and foremost and nurture those taken under his wing.
