SINGLE REVIEW: ALIENIST - SEVERANCE

Five-piece metalcore band, Alienist, from Wollongong, New South Wales, did not disappoint with their latest release ‘Severance,' which features distorted guitar riffs, powerful vocals, and solid drum fills. Severance showcases their modern take on heavy metal to the likes of artists such as Northlane and Polaris.

Forming just last year, Alienist have had a promising beginning with their two singles, and show no signs of slowing down. Featuring all the hallmarks of a typical metalcore song, Alienist take it one step further to prove they’re not messing around. We’re talking double-kicks and breakdowns galore!

Consisting of multiple intricate layers, Severance allows them to highlight their virtuosic talents. The chorus consistently draws listeners in with its’ clean vocals, catchy melodies, and strong instrumental backbone. Likewise, the verses holds the audience’s attention and evokes a strong need to head-bang along.

Despite the rough start for the Australian music industry this year, Alienist are not going to let it disrupt their vision to create music. You’ll be sorry if you miss them!

Ashlee Brown

Music has had a massive impact in Ashlee’s life. She started playing drums at the age of 16 in a school band with her friends, and she continues to play as a hobby. After realising that she preferred the ‘behind-the-scenes’ elements of live sound rather than the performing aspect, she began studying Audio Engineering at Collarts to fulfil her dream of working in the audio industry.

Outside of her studies, she spends her free time going to as many gigs as she can.

She likes listening to metalcore, alternative-rock, and prog metal, and her favourite bands include Aburden, Alpha Wolf, Ebonivory, and Trophy Eyes.
