BRISBANE’S MCDERMOTT & NORTH RETURN WITH NEW SINGLE ‘GEORGIA’
Between songwriters Patrick McDermott and Rhys North, there exists a natural and organic creative dynamic and partnership. Together, their work as McDermott & North has already brought them praise from Australian and international industry alike and as they progress throughout 2021, the duo are continuing to step things up.
Today, they share their new single ‘Georgia’, a perfect follow on from their February release, ‘Ally’. With ‘Georgia’, McDermott & North produce their most galvanised release to date. Blending together pop, indie and roots influences, ‘Georgia’ is McDermott & North at their best.
Recorded at Brisbane’s Plutonium Studios, ‘Georgia’ came together with a very specific experience of Paddy’s in mind. A Tinder match that inspired the song, ‘Georgia’ is wrapped up in gorgeous melodies and indie pop arrangements.
“This song title actually came about because I had just broken up with my girlfriend and was on Tinder. When I matched with someone I’d write a song for them. I matched with a ‘Georgia’ who funnily enough went on to become a huge Instagram sensation. When I sent her the song she never responded. So if you’re out there, Georgia, I hope you enjoy it!”

Since their first meeting in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley back in 2016, McDermott & North have been elevating themselves as live performers, while their music has captivated audiences. Honing their influences and core sound, the act has had their music recognised by the likes of triple j, BBC Radio and Radio NZ. Cutting their teeth as performers as successful buskers, McDermott & North’s trajectory to becoming some of Brisbane’s favourite headline performers was one set early.
The duo will launch their new single with a special hometown show at The Brightside in Brisbane. Using the opportunity to continue the momentum generated by the success of ‘Ally’ in February, McDermott & North have their sights firmly set on taking their show and music even further to impress, and be celebrated.
“We have been so blown away by the support for ‘Ally’, we’re really just incredibly excited to keep sharing new music with everyone. I think the coolest thing is that we’ve finally managed to find a consistent sound in both live performance and our studio recordings. ‘Georgia’ is definitely one of those we’re proud of.”

PRAISE FOR McDERMOTT & NORTH
“Good hearing this duo step it up to the next level with this accomplished new track. It’s sustained and sweet like a slow release treacle hit.”
Triple J Unearthed, Dave Ruby Howe (‘Ally’, 2020)
“Patrick McDermott and Rhys North, have spent the past number of years carving out a sound that feels both grounded and explorative; it’s rooted in an earnest kind of folky warmth, but stretches into spaces of pure melodic ecstasy. Seriously, these guys really know how to write a chorus.”
Happy Magazine
“Clearly dedicated to the preservation of the song…”
BBC Radio, Gary Crowley
