‘MEDICINE’ NEW SINGLE FROM GEORGI KAY
Following her mesmerizing and refreshing chill-beat single ‘Gasoline’, GEORGI KAY entices us to take a deeper dive into the wonderfully dark, hypnotic and brooding dreamscape that is ‘Medicine’.
A song inspired by both personal hurt and the ever-growing, ever-shifting pains and struggles we as humanity face with drastically rising pressures and push-pull relationships within our society and government, ‘Medicine’ in its simplest form is all about the heartbreak and disappointment we experience from those we trust and look up to most.
Interwoven rhythmic bass pulses, deep synth textures and ambient trap and trip-hop beats dip and dive seamlessly with GEORGI’s warm and lush, yet equally soporific vocal textures and bittersweet lyrics, creating a sonic landscape best described by GEORGI herself as ‘swimming through warm plasma’.
‘Medicine’ sees an all Australian collaboration, with GEORGI coming together with co-producer Andrew Furze (Ladyhood, Ari’elle, Reece Mastin, The X Factor Australia, Dancing With The Stars Australia) and mixing engineer Andy Baldwin (Bjork, Elle King, Haerts, St. Lucia, Car Seat Head Rest).
Following in the footsteps of the song’s ambiguous, symbolic and introspective storytelling, the accompanying music video focuses specifically on the emotional struggle and tension between a soul and their surrounding environment. During the entirety of the video, GEORGI is seen crying, submerged, doused or laying in surroundings of water. This concept of constant elemental symbolism and attachment is intended to match the feelings felt during emotional turmoil, for visions of water within dreams is the most common symbolic representation of our emotional state. Woven like a dream, ‘Medicine’ shows us the true face of struggle and hurt, yet reminds us that we are never alone in our feelings.

GEORGI KAY is a British-Australian artist based in LA. Her love for creating and looping electronic beats, bass, synths and vocal chops has landed her ARIA and APRA awards as well as a Grammy nomination for her song ’In My Mind’ - the 2012 dance anthem collaboration with Aussie DJ’s Feenixpawl, Ivan Gough and Axwell from Swedish House Mafia. And earlier this year, GEORGI was awarded an APRA Billion Streams Award for achieving extraordinary success by accumulating over one billion streams for the 2018 remix of ‘In My Mind’ by Dynoro.
