TAYLAH CARROLL 'SOMETIMES GOOD PEOPLE DO BAD THINGS' MELBOURNE SINGLE LAUNCH
+ Teams up with Melbourne filmmaker Nick Mckk on new video for ‘Sometimes Good People Do Bad Things’
Taylah Carroll brings resilience and restraint to her latest indie fuzz-out ‘Sometimes Good People Do Bad Things’. In a new video from Melbourne filmmaker Nick Mckinlay aka Nick Mckk (Julia Jacklin, Stella Donnelly, Merpire), premiered by Trouble Juice this week, Carroll stands her ground as the unwavering elements of the Cape Shank shoreline bellow relentlessly all around her. Relieved finally by an all-encompassing embrace from her mother and sister in a moment of calm, the clip shines a light on the commanding yet vulnerable essence of the track.
Mckk, who is swiftly earning cult status amongst the Melbourne music community and beyond as the go-to-guy for shooting and producing music videos, has once again managed to unearth the epic from the mundane. The simplicity of the clip builds in powerful intensity, leaving a suspended lust lingering in the depths of its sparsity so Carroll’s arresting vocals and woozy guitar work can take to the fore.
“It was extremely windy, Taylah and I couldn’t hear each other and her mum and sister were very cold. Bushrangers Bay is an epic landscape to locate this clip, but gee it was a challenge. We initially wanted dancing in this clip, a couple of old folk swaying together, but Taylah and I both felt that it took away from something more impactful. Not a whole heap happens, but that’s the idea. Taylah brings it together and the location does the rest of the work.” – Nick Mckk

“It was so windy that I had tears running down my face, and I couldn’t hear the track very well. It was playing in double time, and I was trying to lip sync and tambourine (is that the verb?) in time, whilst the beat disappeared and reappeared over the racket of the wind. That concentration and restraint is super apparent in my performance, which I hated at first, but it’s grown on me, and again, I think it adds to the drama.” – Taylah Carroll
After launching her debut single to an avid crowd at Melbourne’s Gasometer Hotel earlier this year, and following from a national tour supporting Harrison Storm in August, Taylah Carroll is earning her stripes as one of Melbourne’s most endearing up-and-comers. Taylah will be launching the new single with a full band performance on Friday 22 November at local watering hole The Tote joined by special guests Franjapan and YARA.
