TANAYA HARPER RELEASES ‘EVAN KEELE’ VIDEO + PERTH EP LAUNCH + SLOW MOTION BREAKUP EP OUT 20 MARCH
“If Hatchie x Stella Donnelly had a music baby, I bet it would sound a little something like this! I really enjoy the soaring moments here and all those pretty layers ★★★★”

Perth’s indie champion Tanaya Harper recently shared her brooding ‘90s confessional, ‘Evan Keele’, lifted from her forthcoming EP Slow Motion Breakup. Now the WA artist is thrilled to reveal the track’s visual accompaniment ahead of her upcoming hometown EP launch this April.
Following from the EP’s first lifted single ‘Crash Pad’ of last year, ‘Evan Keele’ was directed, edited and produced by acclaimed Perth filmmaker Matt Pitcher. Exploring the idea of boredom, Pitcher and Harper wanted to create something simple which represented the monotony of everyday life. The film clip is shot entirely on a train in an extended single-take shoot which perfectly couples the song’s insightful lyricism and deep introspection.
“With this video, I wanted to move as far away from the Crash Pad film clip as possible. No studio, no lights, no props. This song sounds rather chaotic and raw so I used that as visual inspiration when brainstorming the main idea. I wanted to be in public surrounded by real, regular, mundane life. This song talks about how, once I was medicated, my mind stopped travelling at a million miles an hour. This has been an infinitely positive outcome but initially, I found the 'stable life' excruciatingly boring. I felt that filming on a train perfectly encapsulated a mundane activity, where you feel motionless whilst simultaneously the world swiftly passes you by. If anyone finds the video boring, well, that's kind of the point.” - Tanaya Harper
Slow Motion Breakup, slated for release Friday 20 March, follows in the wake of Harper’s successful 2018 WAM nominated debut Some Kinds and navigates mental health, relationships, growth and loss. Recorded, produced and mixed by Dave Parkin at Blackbird Sound Studio and mastered by William Bowden, Slow Motion Breakup sees Tanaya at her most vulnerable. A microcosm of her own mind, the EP reaches soaring heights and burrowing lows, often in the same breath, with Harper’s distinguishing indie pop mastery leaving the fuzzy glow of hope behind long after the final echo fades.
Be swept up in the intimacy of Tanaya Harper’s silken melodies, off-the-cuff banter and powerful vocals when she celebrates the release of Slow Motion Breakup with a hometown launch at Perth’s Badlands Bar, Friday 3 April with special guests Shy Panther, Grunge Barbie and Mitch McDonald (Love Junkies).
