ADELAIDE’S SEABASS SERVE UP ANTICIPATED DEBUT EP ‘ALWAYS KIDDING’
The debut EP from Adelaide’s SEABASS is finally here, the culmination of five years of songwriting for Annie Siegmann comes to life bolstered by an A-Team of musicians on Always Kidding.
Since the band’s inception in 2019, SEABASS have been developing a sound that speaks to their own influences as well as an overall group dynamic and across seven tracks, we get to know them that much better.
An effortless blend of indie rock and pop sensibilities that sit comfortably in the same territory as artists like Middle Kids, Ali Barter and The Preatures, the Always Kidding EP proves SEABASS’ versatility as an act. Unafraid to lean into hectic guitars as well as more vulnerable moments of introspection, the record is a great way to see how such different stories knit together with ease.
“This EP is a collection of songs that have been accumulating over the past five years - it’s taken that long to take the leap to creating for my own band. The EP is really us honing our sound as a band. It has hints of the lonely singer-songwriter in a bedroom late at night, and then leans heavily into a guns-a-blazing guitar-centric, power drum territory.”

Featuring recent singles ‘Always Kidding’ and ‘Burn’, the EP is a fun ride recorded by the band at home in Adelaide with the band’s guitarist and resident sound engineer Ryan Martin John taking on final engineering and mixing duties. A proper all-in effort, the EP has come together under the band’s united vision.
“It’s a showcase of the band’s skill and just how exciting SEABASS can be. The fact that we recorded and produced it ourselves with Ryan at the helm as engineer allowed us to highlight some huge drums, catchy, powerful vocals and soaring guitars. At the end of the day, I’m just happy that my friends want to play music with me. And they happen to be some of the biggest, badass motherfuckers in the world.”
