MAJA REALISES THAT HOME IS WITHIN HERSELF WITH NEW SINGLE ‘MOTHER’S DAUGHTER

Maja is at it again, with her second single Mother’s Daughter from her debut album “I’ll Get There”, released October 9.
Maja wrote this poignant and dream-like song about the feeling of being alone in a new city after she moved to Melbourne from Brisbane.

“You’re on your own, You’re away from home” You’re a fish out of water, You’re your mother’s daughter.”

“I wrote Mother’s Daughter as a way for me to feel less alone and lost in those hard times. I knew that even though I was “a fish out of water,” I could still feel connected to my family,” Maja says.

Inspired by Laura Marling and Bon Iver, the open tuning in the guitar creates a feeling of warmth and safety to the listener that leaves you open and at home with yourself through a feminine figure.

“Now I sit with the discomfort of what they want me to be, they never asked what I wanted to be.” Maja says: “When I moved to Melbourne – like any new place, I felt quite ostracised at times. Sometimes I felt like I was being pinned into a box... And I sometimes felt “how do I fit into this city?”

The only thing I could hang on to was that I was my mother’s daughter, so I could feel less alone. Now that I’m older, I’ve learnt that every place has its own way of being and you will never feel fully free and accepted anywhere, until you fully accept yourself. And I didn’t really know that back then.”

The song is a reminder of the unconditional love between a mother and a daughter.

In this pandemic, the lyrics remind us that even though we are isolated from family and friends, we belong somewhere and that we are in this together and connected during these troubling times.

The song release was accompanied by an exclusive Facebook show on October 17th.
