LORNE FALLS FESTIVAL CANCELLED AMID BUSHFIRE WARNINGS; MELBOURNE RESPONDS WITH FUNDRAISERS ACROSS THE CITY
“Revellers at the annual Falls Festival on Victoria's Great Ocean Road have to leave, with organisers cancelling the rest of the four-day event due to extreme weather.
About 9000 festivalgoers have until 9am tomorrow to pack up their Lorne campsites and find lifts to leave the 27th annual music and arts festival, organisers said this morning.
"Forecasted conditions have gotten significantly worse in the past 12 hours, with information coming to light that has not been available to us before the event kicked off on December 28th," organisers said in a statement.
Food, medical and toilets will remain open today but there won't be any music playing or bars open.”

Amid all of this, however, a handful of Melbourne venues are hosting fundraiser gigs in response, with many of the Falls performers instead handing their time to perform with varying percentages of ticket sales going directly towards the CFA and RFS to assist in firefighting efforts;

We’ll be updating this list as any new show announcements come - as they seem to just keep comin’- and we’d like to send out a huge kudos and thanks to the artists and to everyone involved with organising the fundraiser gigs for the bushfires all across Melbourne tonight after Falls Festival Lorne 2019/20 was cancelled, the biggest of kudos and thanks. What a legendary outcome from one shitty situation to help out people in an even worse shitty situation. A rare occasion to be proud of fellow humans.
Amongst the many gigs happening tonight in response to the cancellation, Stay Gold is hosting one of our own tomorrow night and it’s gonna be a sick night. Catch me* on the door and come along to help those doing some of the hardest work imaginable right now with the CFA (Country Fire Authority) and RFS. This is an opportunity to get in an amazing good deed before the year is out and have a sick time while you’re at it. Whichever gig y’all end up going to, please keep in mind why it’s happening to begin with. Donate what you can when you can and value what you have while you have it.
