Following the release of sophomore single ‘Trust in Me’, the six-minute, two-chord burner from Brisbane’s RINSE, the artist today drops a remix pack featuring three very unique variations of the track as imaginatively brought to life by some of the most prolific artists and producers! Taking ‘Trust in Me’ to unforeseen places we see The Presets’ K.I.M (Kim Moyes), Goodchild (of Confidence Man) and LA-based artist and producer Orchin step up to the plate to deliver three exceptional takes on the single.
RINSE (aka Joe Agius), reminisces on how ‘Trust in Me’ originally came together and his brainwave to have the single remixed, "There were so many directions I could have taken ‘Trust in Me’ when I was writing it, so the idea of getting it remixed was always something I had on my mind,” he recalls. “I decided to ask three friends that I could trust with hearing my naked vocal stems to give it a crack and I was blown away with the results. Each remix is a completely different spin on the song and really shows the best parts of the track with each artist’s distinct personal style."
Already winning over K.I.M, Goodchild and Orchin with the RINSE project overall and on ‘Trust in Me’, the three artists were more than happy to add their own flavour to the original. "I’ve been a fan of Joe for a while so when I heard he had started his new project RINSE I already had a suspicion it was going to be awesome and, of course, when I was asked to remix ‘Trust in Me’ I immediately jumped at the opportunity," K.I.M declares.
"I love the original and was excited by the idea of stripping it back, opening it up and connecting some of the original parts with a few new ones of my own to focus in on the slow burn expansiveness of the mood and arrangement," adds Goodchild with Orchin declaring, "'Trust in Me' is such a warm, atmospheric song on the surface but when I looked deeper I discovered there is an aching sadness and longing. I wanted to create a cold sonic plane that would amplify that darkness and accentuate the duality of this song."
The ‘Trust in Me’ original made its debut in early June, garnering tastemaker, industry and media attention along its course with NME affirming, “It’s a swirling, shoegaze-tinged kaleidoscope of a song in the same musical ballpark as Pale Saints or Echo and the Bunnymen.”
The follow up to RINSE’s only other solo single ‘Tell Me Tell Me Tell Me’, ‘Trust in Me’ lyrically explore themes involved with sleepless, middle-of-the-night fever dreams of anxiety and loneliness. It was mixed by Jorge Elbrecht whose impressive resume includes Sky Ferreira, Gang Gang Dance, Wild Nothing, Japanese Breakfast and Ariel Pink.
Musically, RINSE gravitates towards post-punk, shoegaze and new-wave sounds, influenced by artists such as New Order, Echo & The Bunnymen, The Cure and Pale Saints. With a collection of songs he is proud to call his own waiting patiently in his back pocket, there’s plenty more in store for RINSE.
