OK HOTEL REVEAL ADDICTIVE INDIE-ROCK SINGLE ‘LIFE IS CRAZY (LIKE THAT)’
With their debut record “Swim” earning immediate praise on triple j, Wollongong’s OK Hotel have swiftly made a name for themselves as proponents of beltable, heart-on-your-sleeve alternative rock. The band have hit the mark again with their new single “Life is Crazy (Like That)”, blending an all out wall of fuzzy guitars with genuine lyrics ripe to raise your beer to.
“Everything I wanted to say came out in the ‘life is crazy like that’ chorus line,” said the band. “It was one of those rare occasions where the chorus wrote itself, with not much more than a single phrase. It was the very first thing I said on a voice memo and it stuck
Growing up we get worn down by things we love, and not knowing where to start mapping boundaries can be tough. The songs about unhealthy friendships and questioning what it is that keeps people together in the first place.”
Wollongong-raised alt-rock three piece OK Hotel have been steadily gaining local support up and down the east coast, supporting the likes of Pist Idiots, Ruby Fields, Horror My Friend, TOTTY, and more. While drawing influence from fuzz-fuelled 90’s bands like Smashing Pumpkins, the band’s hook-driven choruses cement them firmly in the present.
With an EP set for release later this year, the band revealed a first taste in February with the high-energy, grippingly melodic rock track, “Swim”, produced by Fletcher Matthews (Dear Seattle, STUMPS, Sweater Curse, CLEWS).
With two world-class singles now released, OK Hotel have firmly planted themselves in the category of Australian rock bands to watch.
