Brisbane’s MARLOE. today unveils a striking new chapter with her single ‘Worked Harder’. Written in-studio in the midst of lockdown with MDWS, MARLOE.’s new release solidifies the electro-pop songstress as one to watch, showcasing her self-assured and blissful dream pop songwriting style, juxtaposed with melancholic lyricism.

The new single expresses MARLOE.’s inner monologue, addressing her experiences with people who have overstepped the boundaries she set, she explains:

“I wrote this song at a time when I felt I was being pushed and pulled in too many directions and I allowed people to abuse the boundaries I had set. It's kind of a glimpse of this inner monologue of me realising if someone wanted to be in my life they would be, and I don't need to bend and break myself just to make someone stick around.”

“I had planned to work on a different song in the studio that day, but when I woke up and got ready the chorus, melody and lyrics just started pouring out of me and in that moment it was like I had finally let go of this energy that was holding me back and instantly felt lighter.”

‘Worked Harder’ was produced by Evan Klar in Berlin, mixed by Mathew Hadley and mastered by Adam Dempsey.

MARLOE. burst onto the scene last year with her stunning self-titled EP, which put her singular brand of dazzling electro-pop on the map. The elegant EP - produced by Grammy-nominated producer Matt Bronleewe and including empowering breakthrough single ‘The Future Is Now’ - saw her balance gut-wrenching pop and heavenly electronica in songs of self-determination, liberation and wounded romance. The release saw her likened to emotive electro-pop titans such as Vera Blue and Lorde.

This unique brand of electro-pop has seen MARLOE. championed on-air by the likes of triple j’s Home and Hosed, triple j Unearthed, 4ZZZ and B105. Her tracks ‘Secrets’ and ‘Remember Me’ both soundtracked an episode of ABC’s ‘The Heights’ and she graced the stage of Mountain Goat Valley Crawl, as well as the Brisbane leg of Austen’s ‘Passenger Seat’ tour. Leaving no stone or achievement unturned, MARLOE. was also chosen for APRA AMCOS’s Songwriting Camp in 2019 and selected by QMusic to attend Sydney’s Electronic Music Conference.

As her debut EP blossomed nationally, MARLOE. also caught the eyes and ears of international audiences, with ‘You Don’t Know Me’ landing a Nissan commercial in the US and ‘The Future Is Now’  charting  #1 on the What's In-Store Music Charts, with the single being played over 82,000 times across retail stores in one week in the US.

While MARLOE.’s writing has evolved over the years, what remains constant is a need to exercise her demons and bear witness to the transformation one undergoes throughout their 20s. She takes difficult, altering experiences and extolls the lessons she’s learnt in each and every song. “When I listen back to those songs, it’s a reminder to me how far I've come” she says, “I could only hope that other people can listen to them and gain strength from that growth too.”
