Elizabeth Fader shares a new single and video for ‘Lost In The Middle’. Following previously released tracks, ‘Encore’ and ‘Big Mistake’, the new single, which premiered on triple j last night, continues to define Fader's distinct take on indie electro-pop and talent for introspective songwriting, laced with both vulnerability and strength. The accompanying video is a continuation of the project's visual language, combining emotive choreography with a DIY pop attitude - WATCH HERE.
"'Lost In The Middle' is about being in limbo and relinquishing control.” Fader explains, “It's about that feeling you get at a party when you realise it's late and tomorrow is just going to be a write off so you may as well just let go and enjoy the ride. And sometimes that takes you to this place where everything just works out. There's a feeling of moving towards something new, a kind of rebirth. It's hopeful, glittery and nostalgic."
The track and accompanying visuals were recorded, filmed and produced by a local team including, Simon Berckelman (Philadelphia Grand Jury) who recorded the track at Golden Retriever Studio in Marrickville, Nicholas Meredith who produced the track and ARIA award-winning producer, Burke Reid (Courtney Barnett, The Drones) who provided the mix.
The video was conceptualised, directed and edited by Jordan Watton. "It captures a sense of isolation at a party." says Fader, "I arrive alone, dance alone, and I'm the last one standing. I've always felt the song evokes certain colours seen throughout the video - purples, blues, silver, the golden morning light in the final scene. Angel imagery was also a persistent theme throughout the making of this song - lyrically, conceptually, and in the costume design, and I think of the dancers as my angels - and perhaps versions of myself."
Fader has a rapidly growing fanbase, with her first two singles gaining attention and praise from Pilerats, NME, Mixdown and Tone Deaf. As well as support from AMRAP, triple j Unearthed, and placement on Spotify's New Music Fridays, Indie Arrivals, Fresh Finds and Women of AU & NZ.
While finding success with Phantastic Ferniture, it’s Fader’s solo work that quickly earned her a reputation as one of Sydney's most intriguing songwriters & guitar players. Her live talent has been showcased supporting Julien Baker, Julia Jacklin and The Teskey Brothers.
