Sydney sister duo CLEWS have unveiled their latest single “Overluck” in the lead up to their forthcoming EP Loveluck Omens - out Friday 21st May. Living up to their reputation as alt-rock rising stars, Lily and Grace Richardson vow to be the kind of artists who never orbit the same sun twice. On ‘Overluck’ they shoot through a new space filled with 2010s indie-inspired drum loops, jangly guitars and Hans Zimmer-esque bass and strings - “Overuck” embodies a new era of indie rock verve. Starting with Lily’s lone vocal, the song muses on a personal question for the girls: can you be lucky without being in love?

“This song introduces the theme for the upcoming EP: being lucky in life but unlucky in love. Songwriting is like sharing my feelings with myself, and I didn't realise how worried I was about being alone until I wrote ‘Overluck’. I reflect on being happy where I am in my life but wondering if I'm missing something because I've never been in love. The chorus is a powerful mantra for me as a woman - a reminder that I've made the right choices in my life and always have the power to choose my path. I am the architect of my happiness and pleasure, I don't have to be with anyone I don't want to be with. I will always choose a real spark over the fear of being on my own,“ said CLEWS

CLEWS have carved out a distinct sonic identity - their twin-lead vocals an organic trademark of this high energy band. With their sisterly harmonies being the backbone of their operation, they feel liberated to push and pull production to wherever they want it to go.

“Our producer Dylan Adams [‘Want You That Way’, DMA’s, West Thebarton] really helped us take ‘Overluck’ out of our guitar-driven comfort zone while keeping the bittersweet sound we always try to capture in our choruses. It’s become one of the all-time favourite songs we’ve made so far because it’s so personal to me but so fun to listen to. All we want to do is make music that we love, that is driven by harmonies and with lyrics that people can hear themselves in,” said CLEWS.

The most recent release from CLEWS, "Want You That Way," allowed the duo to splash out into the huge melody-driven pop music they love. Marking the start of a new era, the track was featured by Women In PopNME AustraliaHappy Mag, and Milky among others.

CLEWS kept busy in 2020 creating their first body of work and recalibrating their live show for their eventual full-capacity return. They have recently returned to stages in Sydney supporting DMA’S, selling out two headline shows at The Lansdowne and appearing at venues in Newcastle and Wollongong. They consider their audiences as part of the big CLEWS extended family. CLEWS always leave personal touches at their live appearances in the form of hand drawn cards and otherworldly dressings to their stages - bringing everyone right up close to their universe.

Their light and loving dynamic is always on full display at their live shows. It permeates through every move they make on stage - their confidence and looseness when playing their music live, and their playful banter that is now being captured in podcast form. Having spent the last year building a reputation as a formidable live act, CLEWS have become more than just a band to watch.

2021 is set to be a huge year for CLEWSLily and Grace are ready to continue their biggest phase of creativity and music yet. CLEWS will be heading to Next Exit Festival in late May, on tour alongside indie heavyweights Ocean AlleySpacey JaneDear Seattle and Merci, Mercy. With five destinations in regional NSW towns TamworthPort MacquarieGosfordBatemans Bay and finally Mudgee where the sisters spent their winter holidays growing up, CLEWS will be hitting the stage with their latest work.

"Overluck" is available to stream on all platforms now.
“Loveluck Omens” EP is coming out Friday 21st May.
