Central Coast artist Eluera reveals her captivating new single ‘Petty’ and its joyful video. Eluera shares that ‘Petty is a song about, “knowing you're in the wrong and that you are probably getting upset over something stupid, but instead of kissing and making up, relishing in the minor fight and doing trivial things to get at under your partner's skin."
The track follows a string of singles from 2020; ‘Good Girl’, ‘Moderation’ (which Elton John spun repeatedly on his Rocket Hour show on Apple Music), and ‘GUTS’. The overwhelming response to Eluera’s music led to a total sell out of her first ever headline shows - four Oxford Art Factory’s no less; an indication this exciting pop newcomer is on the rise. This month, Eluera will join Sloan Peterson as main support for her East Coast tour taking in nine dates across metro and regional centres.
The video for ‘Petty’ features a cast of Eluera’s best friends and is a collaboration between the artist and director Jacob Thomas. According to Eluera, “We wanted to do something quite tongue and cheek with the concept of 'Petty'. Really putting the girls forward and having that 2000's ”Girls rule, boys drool” vibe (haha). We wanted to show the girls not caring at all what the boys were doing and focusing on themselves in an exaggerated way; using them as foot rests, shoving their faces in cakes, and basically having them as play toys.”
Eluera creates music that is unparalleled in her genre. Her perfect blend of honest and emotional story-telling (self-described as ‘cool but sad’) paired with understated pop production creates something so effortless yet intriguing. Growing up busking around her hometown, with only her guitar, has cultivated a love for clever word play and lyric-front songs which has very obviously carried through to her current style of songwriting.
