"A beautiful kaleidoscope of sounds, produced to perfection and whisking you away into Grace's imaginings. This isn't just green, it's a whole damn rainbow" 4.5 / 5 (Pip Rasmussen, Triple J)
"I dig it, your killin those esoteric dreamy vocals over the hip hop favoured kicks and snares just the way you should. Royal influences." 4 / 5 (Ilai Swindells, Triple J)
STREAM 'GREEN'
With a hazy blend of electro/ pop and psych, Perth's self-produced singer-songwriter, Grace Sanders, is releasing her edgy and enthralling new single 'Green' (Out August 14).
Sanders' solo project began in 2017 and she has since drip-fed three singles that have displayed her songwriting diversity, vocal prowess and ability to sell-out shows.
While working on new material that has taken her in a fresh direction, she has been found playing alongside emerging Perth artists including Grevious Bodily Calm, Tanaya Harper, Dulcie and Adrian Dzvuke.
Now, dripping with sass in this new single, Sanders belts out her enchanting melodies that are entwined with her radical, carefree attitude all while getting wrapped up in a cosmos of dirty synths and psychedelic guitars.
'Green' kicks off quickly with the electro-psych-pop hook that is reprised throughout the track. The verses lay back to allow space for the smooth-flowing deliveries from Sanders backed by the up-tempo drum beat, keys and then the welcomed rolling sub-bass lines.
Sanders then in the pre-chorus sends shivers up the spine with her seductive razor-sharp tone and snarling attitude backed by deep and gritty synth-bass. The track bursts free in the psychedelic chorus before diving back into the second verse.
The second chorus seamlessly breaks off into a spacious bridge that allows Sanders to spill some tongue-twisting alliteration that continues over a tsunami of synth, bass and drums. This graciously transitions back into the final chorus followed by a lulling send off to close the track.
Tying into the dreamy yet menacing nature of the track is Sanders lyricism where the underlying themes of 'Green' explore loneliness, dejection and procrastination. Sanders explains:
"I wrote Green after I had lost 3 jobs, my car broke down, my Dad had a heart attack, a friend had passed away only the month prior - I was just generally depressed, isolated and bored. I wanted it to capture the feeling of being alone in a room full of people, swamped by all the shit that's going wrong in your life and yet unable to share those feelings with anyone around you."
With the help of producer Ezekiel "Zeke" Padmanabham, 'Green' is eloquent, mesmerizing and an ever-evolving display of Sanders maturity as a songwriter since her previous releases - all while only scratching the surface of what is yet to come.
Sanders will be returning to the stage for the launch of 'Green' on Saturday, 29th of August at Barbes alongside Myriad Sun, Hyclass and Aalienboy (DJ set).
