KUČKA RELEASES ‘ASCENSION’ VIA SOOTHSAYER/LUCKYME
KUČKA today shares her latest single, 'Ascension', out now via Soothsayer/LuckyMe.
Beautiful and jagged, 'Ascension' continues to explore KUČKA’s singular brand of digital soul, a synthesis of percussion-heavy R&B and avant-electronica, all centered around her fragile vocals. Building a soundscape that’s both minimal and constantly threatening to subsume her within its textural heft at the same time, 'Ascension' is yet another exemplary display of the producer’s delicate musical balancing act. Of the track, KUČKA shares: “'Ascension' is about the continual growth that we are all undertaking at every stage of our life. We’re constantly faced with new challenges whether we realize it or not and it’s important that we don’t let our fears get in the way of our enjoyment of the process."
Within the video, the viewer finds themselves in a game played by KUČKA focusing on the path to inner enlightenment. Set in a virtual environment, viewers tune in to experience and interact with her journey as she collects crystal balls and levels up. KUČKA explains, "The video emphasises our interconnectedness and the depth we can feel through a digital network." Watch it HERE.
Following July’s 'Contemplation', 'Ascension' is the Australian artist’s second new single of 2020 and comes off the back of a banner previous 12 months, having released her first solo material in 3 years with the Flume-assisted 'Drowning' before following it up in short succession with the Nosaj Thing-co-produced 'Real' - the #1 most played song on triple j in November. A prolific writer, KUČKA has long aligned herself with some of the most exciting artists working on the frontiers of hip hop and electronic music today, sharing credits with Flume, SOPHIE, Vince Staples, A$AP Rocky, and more. With her steady and selective recent output drawing praise from the FADER, Fact Magazine, Clash Music, NME, Earmilk, Flaunt and many more, she is now shining that spotlight back onto herself and her inimitable talents.
