21 year old Indian-born, Melbourne-based pop juggernaut on the rise, ASHWARYA, has today revealed her exciting first offering for 2021 with new single ‘TO THE NIGHT’ featuring none other than Chicago rap heavyweight Vic Mensa. In tandem with the single, ASHWARYA is thrilled to announce details of her debut body of work - an EP titled Nocturnal Hours due for release on 10 June (via NOiZE Recordings).
On ‘TO THE. NIGHT (feat. Vic Mensa)’, the feelings are dark and complex, arpeggiating synths and skittering beats evoking the neon-toned fantasy world of The Weeknd. ASHWARYA’s heady internal world clashes with the chaotic realities of our lives in the 2020s, resulting in an impassioned, empathetic track that speaks to our moment. As ASHWARYA explains, "’TO THE NIGHT' goes through the motions of taking charge of the present and owning your truth. It’s about triumphing over personal or external obstacles that may hold you back. It’s a constant battle, but I hope people can see themselves as the main character in this song, coming through in total command."
Produced by Jarrad Rogers (Charli XCX, Mark Ronson, Icona Pop) and Lucian Blomkamp (Mallrat, 6lack, PRICIE) and mixed by Jamie Snell (Mura Masa, Ellie Goulding, Dua Lipa), ‘TO THE NIGHT (feat. Vic Mensa)’ follows ASHWARYA’s singles 'PSYCHO HOLE', 'BIRIYANI' and 'COMIN@ME', each an exciting left turn from which it precedes and a calculated shapeshifting of an artist on a meteoric rise.
ASHWARYA has already solidified herself as one of the most exciting pop artists Australia has to offer the world; and the world has listened. Her appeal is universal with acclaim rolling in from all corners. ASHWARYA has been profiled in fashion bibles PAPER, Oyster Mag, The Face, ACCLAIM, COMPLEX and more, featured across numerous DSP playlists including the cover spot on Pop N Fresh, Front Left, Get Popped!, additions to over 20 New Music Fridays, and cemented her position at Australian radio.
Suffusing the sound of Gen Z with grit and glamour, ASHWARYA is a weird and witty new voice in a scene desperate for one, an ascendant star known for her jaw-dropping new takes on familiar sounds. Give ASHWARYA three minutes of your time, and she can change pretty much everything you think you know about modern pop.
On June 10, the true force of ASHWARYA will be felt when her EP Nocturnal Hours is released. The body of work is a glamorous and insightful look into the mind of a young pop auteur. The record’s title reflects the pensieve and varied thoughts that arise once the sun goes down, and the palette matches, with gleaming synths, shuddering drum hits as well as cinematic strings on slow. The EP is ASHWARYA at her purest, and speaks to her ambition to not only become a fixture of the pop landscape, but to stay true to her distinct personality and sound throughout.
