ALBUM REVIEW: ORDO - WE SET SIGNALS

Brisbane locals, We Set Signals, have definitely left an impression after the release of their debut album. Ordo is a concept album, that “…follows a normal guy who predicts the end of the world.” With two EPs under their belt, We Set Signals have shown no signs of stopping!

Give Me a Sign is a fitting opening for the album. It begins with soft vocals and electronic pulses, before making a sudden jump into the post hardcore yells and instrumentation found in the chorus.

The next track, We Want You, is much heavier, with unclean vocals kicking in shortly after the song starts. This will soon become one of your favourites with its catchy chorus and sick breakdowns!

Meet Me at Starlight Drive In features guest vocals from Alex Pasibe of Osatia, creating a unique contrast between the two vocals. There’s a cool section right before the breakdown, where you can clap along and feel in touch with the song.

Where Were You opens with soft synths and clean vocals, before the instrumentation kicks in. This track doesn’t disappoint with its fast drum fills and harmonies.

The next song, Just Say Yes, begins with more of a pop-punk feel, contrasting with the heavy vocal growls.

I Wish I Wasn’t Right is definitely my favourite track on the album! I really like how the backing vocals blend seamlessly into the song, adding multiple layers. You can hear the emotions pouring out of the vocalist during the chorus.

War Never Changes begins with a drum beat that’ll make you wanna head-bang along. Be prepared for another sick breakdown moment!

Featuring distorted vocals and double kicks, Terminus allows the band to showcase their technical abilities.

We’ll Watch the World End initially sounds different to every other song. Beginning with soft vocals and slowly building up to the chorus, it stands out amongst the other tracks. The vocalist seems to be pleading and searching for someone, allowing listeners to clearly feel his nostalgia and pain.

The final song is much faster, tying the whole album together. It’s fast paced and heavy, what’s not to love?

We Set Signals won’t disappoint with their latest release. Ordo is a fresh take on the pop-punk and hardcore genre. You can hear how connected the band is, both with each other and with their music.
