EP REVIEW: HEARTLINE - I CALL FOR THE SINKING WARMTH
Adelaide locals Heartline are set to release their new EP, titled i call for the sinking warmth on the 26th of March. That’s right, their new EP drops this Friday!
The opening song, ex nihilo, begins with soft melodic vocals and synth sounds. The slow build-up leads into a fast-beat rock section with yells and lots of drum fills! The heavy screams join in shortly after!
In rule of thought, the clean vocals stand out amongst the heavier elements, demanding to be heard. This was definitely one of my favourites off of the EP. I love the sick instrumental section towards the end. Be prepared, it’ll make you wanna mosh along!
crystal eyes is one of the heavier tracks on the EP, featuring distorted guitars, unclean vocals and a sick breakdown. I really loved how smooth and clean the drums sounded in this song.
The next song, falling with the moon, starts with soft vocals and melodic guitar, before slowing introducing percussive and soundscape elements. Don’t be fooled though, this song has plenty of brutal, heavy moments.
Beginning with an electronic beat, as the crow flies, soon introduces fast-paced drums with heavy vocals. The song explores feelings of overwhelm and uncertainty, and how that can impact your self-worth. Featuring on this track is David De La Hoz, lead vocalist and front man of Melbourne band, Belle Haven.
under the willow has an eerie intro with harsh, distorted vocals before leading into a mini breakdown! The clean vocals in this song are hauntingly beautiful, working in harmony with the surrounding instruments. I loved the guitar tone in the last section of the song!
The closing track, echo, seems to capture the overall sound and essence of the EP. Featuring synth sounds, a catchy chorus, breakdowns and more, its a fitting end to the seven-track EP.
All of the songs are written beautifully and the overall production of i call for the sinking warmth is amazing.
