Presenting Purient, the pseudonym of Naarm/Melbourne based producer and vocalist Kate Durman who arrives today with new single 'Memories', lifted off her forthcoming debut EP out March 26 via Burning Rose / PelvisListen + watch HERE.

Laden with oscillating synths, breathless vocals and clanging percussion, the EBM heavy composition builds with intensity ever so slightly, counting down the moments before a shriek pounds the acid house alarm. Of the release Durman says "I wrote Memories in early 2018 with the intention of producing a club track that DJs could tool and have fun with. Lyrically, the song speaks to the concept of being attached to an idea that you once had of someone."

Complete with music video directed by Jamie Timony, filmed at Victoria's Royal Botanic Gardens, visually 'Memories' juxtaposes its heavy, industrial textures with scenes of vibrant, lush greenery, lyrically recalling better times had, layered with an eery, retrospective mystique of the video's production shortly ahead of Melbourne's rigid lockdown. "I’ve lived by the Botanic Gardens for about five years and have a library of memories there," Purient shares, "so it seemed like the perfect backdrop for this clip."

A member of Australian via LA label Burning Rose Records and regular fixture of Melbourne’s thriving electronic music community, Durman subverts traditional pop forms to deliver an introverted, brooding and purposeful sound, delicately complemented by gauzy vocals. Traversing her own thoughts with uncanny attention to detail, her visceral productions are reminiscent of Kelly Lee Owens’ reptiously meditative melodies, Smerz’s concentrated chaos and the subtle trance of Daniel Avery.

On her forthcoming Memories EP, Eartheater, aka NY-based Alexandra Drewchin, and Varg²™, Swedish producer Jonas Rönnberg, also offer their take on two tracks taking Durman's music further into another dimension. As Purient her distinguishable brand is equal parts experimental, stylish and unpredictable, stay tuned for more in 2021.
