WOMEN IN POP LIVE: SAYAH ANNOUNCED AS HEADLINE ACT FOR THE NEXT WOMEN IN POP LIVE WITH SUPPORTING ACT RISSA

Women In Pop Live have revealed stunning alt-pop singer-songwriter SAYAH to headline the next femme honouring event alongside supporting act neo-soul songstress RISSA on Thursday 13th May 2021. Continuing the regular event at Sydney’s Oxford Art Factory, following recent performances from Emalia and MARSHESWomen In Pop Live is dedicated to the celebration and empowerment of women in music.

"Bringing the ethos of Women In Pop to the live stage has been such a thrill for us and our first show in April was an absolute blast. We are so excited for the second show, especially now we can have larger crowds and dancing. SAYAH and RISSA are two of the most exciting young talents in music right now and we are thrilled to have them perform for Women In Pop Live,” said  Women In Pop.

Headlining the show is Sydney’s renowned singer-songwriter SAYAH, the alt-pop queen who writes confessional pop tracks that have been described as sultry, soulful and emotive. Drawing comparison to BANKSErykah and FKA TwigsSAYAH’s unique expressive vocals, matched with her gripping soundscapes and dark pop edge proves her an extraordinary talent. SAYAH’s skills have landed her performances on stage as the touring female vocalist for indie-electronic duo Cosmo’s Midnight, which has taken her elevated stage presence to some of the biggest stages across the country including the Sydney Opera House

"I’m so excited to play a show to a crowd that’s allowed to dance again! None of this sitting down BS!! I’ll be performing my brand new single 'Fruit' and I've also added some amazing BVS to the set which will bring a whole new energy. So freakin excited for this! See you there," said SAYAH

SAYAH returns to the spotlight with her new single"Fruit". The unashamedly cheeky track is a slice of SAYAH speaking her mind. The song sees SAYAH delve into a more straight up pop sound, with her emotive voice showcasing why she has been a highly sought after lead vocalist by Peking DukSet Mo and Cosmo’s Midnight.

On the new single, SAYAH says the inspiration came from, “When you’ve got an insane connection with someone but you know they’re not good for you, so you try everything to move on including seeing new people.. But no matter what, they’re always on your mind and it’s so freaking annoying!!! At the same time, you also kinda love it.. Ughhh the confusion.”

"Fruit" was recorded at Taka Perry's home studio in Sydney, and mixed by SimonCohen at Studios 301. “Keppie Coutts (co-writer of Fruit) and I wrote this song, she seeded the idea and came to me with the concept and it was crazy because I was literally going through that exact scenario at the time. It was like she had read my mind and we wrote the rest of the song within half an hour.”

Accompanying SAYAH for the event is the R&B goddess herself RISSA. The Australian/Polynesian artist creates music with an untainted soul. Inspired by the worlds of Neo-Soul and R&B, RISSA sings about her real lived experiences and translates them through luscious blends of soulful melodies, silky harmonies and rhythmic grooves forming all the layers of her sound. Built on years of collaboration across the Australian music scene, RISSA has formed a community of talent and following by being her true self in the studio and on the stage.

“As a woman in the Australian music industry I am honoured to be involved in this event creating space and support for the talent of creative women in Australia,” said RISSA“The power in the women around me who are breaking through the glass ceiling of the music industry and expressing themselves in their own way is one of many things that inspires me as an artist and I hope I can carry that power through to others who need it.”

RISSA’s most recent projects include the collaborative track “Ego” with electronic dance producer Beso Palma, a song that beholds bold confidence. Speaking on the project RISSA said “Mixing the sass and boss energy of the lyrics with the upbeat heavy hitting production gives ‘Ego’ that little extra playful element that people can relate and groove to.”

In collaboration with The Harbour Agency and MARSHESWomen in Pop is committed to presenting each event with two feature artists performing their own original music. Hosted by Women In Pop’s music journalist Jett TattersallWomen in Pop Live, a covid safe event, serves as a platform to discuss the involvement of women in the music industry while also giving female acts the opportunity to perform again after the disruption of COVID-19.

We are really excited about the artists who will be taking to the stage in the first shows and we can promise some really special performances.”
