The tune as a whole is just so foreign and unlike the majority of the music in the Aussie scene right now, reaffirming that Muki is totally unique, and that she's truly beyond compare” - Life Without Andy

“She's making pop music that's out of the box, a bit extra, futuristic and usually it's fun and cheeky... it's full of attitude and it's gonna get you to the dance floor…” - Declan Byrne, triple j

“One of the first to enter the hyperpop scene in Australia” - Purple Sneakers

Gadigal/Sydney based singer-songwriter Muki delivers her anticipated sophomore EP Car Crash Through Your Heart: Part 1. Described as “the lovechild of Vangelis, SOPHIE and Robyn”, Car Crash Through Your Heart: Part 1 is a cathartic journey; exploring universal themes of emotional abuse, coercive control and gaslighting in a toxic relationship.

Muki explains further:
“Car Crash Through Your Heart Part 1 was born out of a really dark place in my life. It is the rawest and honest body of work I have released and chronicles the death of a toxic relationship. Each of the songs are my journals throughout this period of time. The title of the EP is a lyric from an earlier single ‘I Know What I Like’, which is about how falling in love can feel chaotic and out of control, like a car crash, which  can also be just as true when you are falling out of love.”

With each track released, MUKI artfully immerses the listener into ‘The Mukiverse’. ‘Level Mind Fuck’ welcomes us into her world, with a futuristic glitch pop soundscape inspired by Ridley Scott’s 1982 Blade Runner before the assertive tongue-in-cheek follow-up ‘I Make Boys Cry’ sets the tone. As the EP unfolds the listener is met with ‘Space/City Limit’, a sad dance floor anthem conceived in London.

The final track ‘Tears In The Rain', sees MUKI reflect on the experience of running into your ex at a party and feeling like they are a stranger to you. “All the tears that you cried over them, almost never exist because it fades away in time -- like tears in the rain”. Written in a session with Basenji, the same week Rutger Hauer (Roy Batty in Blade Runner) had passed away, it’s a fitting homage to the film that informed so much of The Mukiverse, with the track’s title a direct reference to the actors' closing monologue.

Alongside the release, Muki teams up with multidisciplinary creative Jamin Tasker to share a short film, which acts as a visual accompaniment connecting the different facets of Muki’s personality and dimensions to her world. With each song intertwined and hidden with surprises and clues for the audience. Muki explains: “I want the audience to make up their own minds as to who is the antagonist and who is the protagonist.

These songs are like my diary from when I was processing my experience of being on the receiving end of a very nuanced form of abuse - coercive control, as well as other forms of abuse. I wanted the visuals to contextualise the listening experience, and we deliberately juxtaposed the sonics which sounded very happy and up-tempo, with visuals that were darker and more intense. I wanted to paint a picture so that listeners would get even more insight when watching.
