THE BELL STREETS REVEL IN THE JOY OF EVERYDAY LIFE IN NEW HOPE-FUELLED VIDEO FOR ‘DISAPPOINTMENT TOWN’ FEAT. KELLY DAY + VINYL PRE-SALES

In the lead up to their debut album Monument being released this week, local duo The Bell Streets are excited to share a new video for their latest single ‘Disappointment Town’ and open vinyl pre-sales via Popboomerang. Long fated for a team-up, Josh Meadows and Nick Batterham introduced their new project to the world back in January, after years spent coexisting on beloved ex-Melbourne label Summershine Records in the ’90s. Launching The Bell Streets with debut single ‘Fragile’, the duo promised 10 tracks in 2020 and are thrilled to finally be able to unveil the rest of their repertoire on their new LP Monument out Friday April 3.

Teaming up with Director Hamish MacGregor the ‘Disappointment Town’ video features the duet’s vocalists Nick Batterham and Kelly Day of Melbourne indie outfit Broads as they go about the monotonies of their daily lives. Focussing on the hidden magic of life’s inconsequential moments plucked from times spent alone, the video envelopes the reinvigoration of a diminishing relationship with warmth, beauty and an undeniable spark of hope to look forward to.

“To me, the song is very melancholy but with this hint of hope. I was really keen to play with that juxtaposition, so the idea became to show the mundanities of everyday life but to present in a beautiful, dreamy way. I decided early on that I wanted the two worlds of the artists to feel very removed from each other, therefore making it more powerful when they come together at the end. We did this by giving the scenarios a distinct colour palette - Nick’s being very blue and Kelly’s very yellow - then balancing the colours for the final moments they share in the car. I feel that the most universal stories are those that are simple and relatable. I wanted the clip to feel like watching a few of the little moments in everyday life. Rather than being big and climatic, these moments can often be mundane and repetitive, but they can also be sweet and memorable.” - Hamish MacGregor, Director

The Bell Streets’ music is born from experience, rejection, steadfastness and unfaithfulness, playfulness, pleasure, forgiveness, new beginnings and gratitude. True collaborators, Josh and Nick have each shared roles in the studio as songwriter and performer, making for an eclectic collection of deeply honest and magnificently produced songs. Be sure to support the duo by pre-purchasing Monument via Popboomerang’s Bandcamp page.

Sadly, you’ll have to wait a little longer for The Bell Streets’ live debut, but until then, you can revel in the melancholic beauty and refreshing hope of ‘Disappointment Town’.
