Los Angeles and Australia lie thousands of miles apart, yet the Sydney-born producer MXXWLL more than embodies the California Love. Today, MXXWLL announces the release of his debut album with single and official video LIGHT TURN GREEN (WATCH HERE) which features a line-up of impressive collaborators including LA’s John GivezRae Khalil as well as NY producer Carrtoons.

The forthcoming album titles Sheeesh (PRE-SAVE HEREwhich spans 17 tracks is host to a HUGE list of artists including honeyed vocals of Melbourne’s Kaiit, platinum-selling artist Aloe Blacc and Oakland’s Guapdad 4000.

LIGHT TURN GREEN premiered on the airwaves via triple j and MXXWLL explains on the recording:

"I’d just arrived in LA and I hit up John Givez, he came through to chop it up, we ordered burgers and the track was created that night. We were playing unreleased vault tracks and then we had the idea to make a song which narrates just one car trip, kind of a-day-in-the-life. I had recently put out a sound pack for producers and this dude Carrtoons had purchased it and made this crazy bass line using the pack. We thought it was so fire that we straight away asked if we could flip it for the track. We didn’t know each other at the time, but it was just one of those perfect timing things. Rae Khalil and her manager came over the next day, at the time our managers were just having a meeting, so we got in the studio, she jumped on the hook that day and that was that. I low-key love that the song follows the story of one day and the track also got made in one day”.

The official video which premiered via ACCLAIM (CHECK IT OUT HERE) was shot in LA around the Crenshaw/View Park Area. “We were living a block away from Crenshaw and Slauson at the time so most of the music video is filmed in the area”. Says MXXWLL, “The lines of palm trees are a pretty iconic view around there, and it felt humbling to be filming in the same area where greats like Nipsey Hussle and Battlecat came up. The video was directed by Sergey and Danielle from Seventy Two Films and most of the shots were pre organised but my favourite part was when we basically all just cruised around and every now and again they would stop the car and say they saw a great shot. So we’d pile out and grab it”.

In 2017, MXXWLL released a 21-track mixtape drenched in inspirations and infatuations of the glory years of West Coast hip-hop titled 'Beats Vol. 1'. The multi-instrumentalist, armed with a near-masterful skill behind the synthesiser and an ability to make your head bounce MXXWLL’s talents have found admiration in some of the greatest names in the business, from Snoop Dogg and DJ Jazzy Jeff to Ty Dolla $ign and J Cole.

His biggest moment to date, though, came in mid-2019 with ‘Purple Emoji’ (features production by MXXWLL) a collaboration with the world dominating headliners J. Cole and TY Dolla $ign. Oozing with 90s R & B flavour and smooth as silk milkshake basslines, within a month ‘Purple Emoji’ has amassed over 12 million Spotify plays and gained support from Rolling StoneBillboardSPIN and Zane Lowe of Beats 1 Radio.

MXXWLL has gone on to support the likes of heavy hitting internationals Snakehips across Australian and warm up the crowd for Grandmaster Flash in San Francisco.
