RINSE,  THE SOLO PROJECT OF JOE AGIUS,  RELEASES FIRST SINGLE ‘TELL ME TELL ME TELL ME’  + ANNOUNCES DEBUT LIVE SHOW IN BRISBANE

Today RINSE, the solo project of Brisbane artist Joe Agius, who also produces, co writes and plays live with Hatchie, marks its beginning by revealing its very first slice with the infectious debut single ‘Tell Me Tell Me Tell Me’. The birth of the project and release of the single sit alongside the announcement of a debut live show at Brisbane’s Black Bear Lodge on Thursday 26 March.

Recorded in late 2019, ‘Tell Me Tell Me Tell Me’ was mixed by Jorge Elbrecht (Ariel Pink, Japanese Breakfast, Wild Nothing, Sky Ferreira) and mastered by Heba Kadry (Bjork, Slowdive, Beach House, Deerhunter). “Sonically, it sits in the middle of a lot of the music I have been recording,” declares Agius, “and for that reason feels like the right place to begin.”

‘Tell Me Tell Me Tell Me’ is accompanied by a Nick Maguire-shot video featuring Hatchie’s Harriette Pilbeam on keys and Ritchie Daniell on drums, guitar duties carried out by Babaganouj’s Charles Sale and The Creases’ Aimon Clark, and Morning Harvey’s Steve Kempnich on bass. The Fader, who premiered the video overnight, describe 'Tell Me Tell Me Tell Me' as “a shimmering and soaring post-punk plea for sanity."

With Agius squarely at its centre, RINSE features a rotating cast of collaborators and live members. Musically, it gravitates towards post-punk, shoegaze and new-wave sounds, influenced by artists such as New Order, Echo & The Bunnymen, The Cure and Pale Saints.

Agius began his musical journey back in 2012, experimenting with music in his parent’s Brisbane suburban home. Since, Agius has dabbled in a number of limited releases, played some sporadic hometown shows all the while placing his solo efforts on the backburner while other creative projects took his focus.

On the dawn of the decade, Agius has found himself with a collection of songs he is super proud of that he feels warrant giving the project a renewed, dedicated attention and a fresh start.
