MELBOURNE’S PBS RADIO IS READY FOR YOU TO HELP ‘MAKE IT HOME’ THIS RADIO FESTIVAL

Rearrange the furniture, fluff the cushions and roll out the red carpet; PBS is ready to ‘Make It Home’ this Radio Festival – Monday 17 to Sunday 30 May. The beloved community radio station and iconic Melbourne institution is asking all listeners to put your money where your ears are this Radio Festival and help PBS make the move to their new home across the way. Just a hop, skip and a jump from the station’s current location for the past 20 years on Easey Street, PBS will join a plethora of Melbourne businesses and organisations at Johnston Street’s new creative hub, Collingwood Yards. Even though it’s close, moving a station is no small feat and there are a multitude of elements that must come together to get the job done. Add COVID into the mix, and like many in the music industry, PBS is having to work extra hard to make up for lost ground. So this year, the good folk at PBS 106.7FM are calling on all listeners to support the station so they can put the final touches on their brand new digs, with their 2021 Radio Festival theme ‘Make It Home’.

From Monday 17 – Sunday 30 May supporters can join up to the station during Radio Festival and become a PBS member and assist PBS to help finish their new home and station. The Progressive Broadcasting Service is a non-profit community organisation, that has been committed to championing and broadcasting under-represented music for over 40 years. As a completely independent community radio station, PBS relies on listener support to keep the tunes glowing, the conversation growing and the airwaves flowing each and every year. This Radio Festival, PBS is asking you to really dig deep, with your support helping to not only rebuild the station, but to make the station home.

“It feels like PBS has been talking about a new home forever and now the time has finally come. It’s going to be amazing but it’s also expensive, particularly with the challenges we’ve had keeping the music on air during COVID. We’re really hoping people who love the station will support us through this time by becoming a member and, if they can, making a donation towards the move to help us Make it Home.” – Adrian Basso, Station Manager

You can rest assured this year is no different, with tonnes of incredible prizes up for grabs for those who join or renew their PBS membership during this year’s Radio Festival. The daily prizes are back and include a Womadelaide double pass, a Port Fairy Folk Festival double pass, tickets to selected Victorian venues, local record store vouchers, plus more.

The 2021 major prizes awaiting you are:
- Primavera 125 i-GET Vespa – Courtesy of Vespa Australia & Peter Stevens Motorcycles
- Clingan Guitar Tone handmade electric guitar and road case
- Clearaudio Concept Turntable with MM Cartridge from HeyNow HiFi
- Avanti INC 1 bicycle, Ortlieb pannier bag and rack from My Ride Collingwood
- A year's worth of PBS feature albums

Since PBS' first official broadcast in December 1979, from the Prince of Wales in St Kilda, the station has become a living, breathing music institution thanks to the dedication and support of Melbourne's music-loving community. PBS is a specialist music radio station dedicated to championing local, specialist and underrepresented music from across the globe and spreading the good word throughout Melbourne and beyond. There are many tiers of membership available to join up from Juniors to Pets; Performers to Businesses; and Friends for a Decade to Friends for Life – everyone can help PBS ‘Make It Home’ this Radio Festival.

"PBS is unlike any other radio station, any support you can provide for them will have great impact for local musicians and the wider music-loving community." – Kylie Auldist
