In support of their forthcoming EP Happiness In A Place It Shouldn’t Be out September 27, The Rions today announce their huge 21-date Happiness In Places Australian tour kicking off this October, presented by triple j, UNIFIED Artist Management and Select Music, plus upcoming festival appearances at Beyond The Valley, Lost Paradise and more. Alongside this announcement comes the latest glimpse of the EP in evocative fan favourite ‘Time Will Try’, out now. TOUR DETAILS HERELISTEN TO ‘TIME WILL TRY’ HERE + PRE-SAVE THE EP HERE + PRE-ORDER VINYL/MERCH HERE.

‘Time Will Try’ presents a sonic shift from the up-tempo rock-pop stylings of The Rions’ recent singles, with a gritty guitar groove reminiscent of the mid-2000s alternative scene they grew up on. Piercingly sentimental, the song is a powerful tribute to the enduring friendship between the four-piece, and how their unbreakable bond has propelled them through the turbulence of adolescence.

Speaking to the inspiration behind the song, The Rions reveal, “This track came about through reminiscing about the times the four of us spent together as 12 year olds, and supposing a world in which we weren’t still friends. We channelled the feeling of losing the history we have in this hypothetical world into the sorrow that bleeds into the lyrics of this song. It’s about the persistence of love that best friends, brothers and sisters share, and that through all the highs and the lows, time spent apart would have ultimately been a waste. That through all the hypothetical miscommunications and stubborn bitterness, the love that we miss sharing with each other would have been within reach all along.”

Happiness In A Place It Shouldn’t Be, the upcoming EP out September 27, follows the band’s widely-acclaimed debut EP Minivan released in 2023. The five-track project chronicled their transformation from high school ones-to-watch to the self-assured band they’ve now become, capturing the effervescence of love, heartbreak and self-discovery, and precipitating the fearless vulnerability The Rions bring to this new EP. On Happiness In A Place It Shouldn’t Be, the band share, “For our second EP, we wanted to approach it with raw authenticity. This is the most genuine we’ve ever been with our stories, and we’re thrilled to share it with you all.”

Along with today’s release, the forthcoming EP is set to include recent favourites ‘Sweet Cocoon’ and ‘Physical Medicine’ - both of which peaked at #1 on triple j’s Most Played Tracks, and garnered extensive media support from Rolling Stone Australia, NME, The Music, iHeartRadio, and Ones To Watch among others.

Harkening back to the gilded sounds of their indie-rock predecessors, from The Beatles to Arctic Monkeys, and drawing further inspiration from local contemporaries including Spacey Jane and Lime Cordiale, The Rions are making waves with their distinctive sound. Clocking over 30 million streams worldwide, they’ve built up a legion of loyal fans from every corner of the world with their innate ability to filter universally felt experiences through their relentlessly catchy songwriting, and the band show no signs of slowing down.

Following on from their sold-out Sweet Cocoon tour earlier this year, with stops in Fremantle, Melbourne (x2), Hobart, Canberra, Adelaide, Brisbane, and Sydney (x2), plus the band’s first-ever UK and Europe co-headline tour with Pacific Avenue that’s currently underway, The Rions are continuing to broaden their reach across Australia and beyond. From October through to December 2024, the band will embark on a 21-date run across capital cities and regional hotspots, kicking off in Cairns on October 25, hitting venues all throughout the East Coast, South Australia, Perth and surrounds, before wrapping up in Brisbane on December 14, before wrapping up the year with sets at Beyond The Valley and Lost Paradise. General on-sale begins Thursday August 29, at 10am local time - for all dates and details, see BELOW.

ABOUT THE RIONS

First forming back in high school where they took to talent shows encouraged by their music teacher Mr. Stone (father to Northern Beaches musical royalty Angus & Julia), Noah Blockley, Harley Wilson, Asher McLean, and Tom Partington went on to upload their single ‘Night Light’ to triple j Unearthed. From there the band went on to take out the winning prize for Unearthed High in 2021 which catapulted them to national recognition. Earning their badge as ‘ones to watch’, The Rions continue to turn heads. Embarking on their first ever headline tour in Aug/Sep 2022 their spin on indie-rock saw the teenagers sell out all nine shows weeks in advance. The shows solidified a loyal fanbase of their own, citing influence from Arctic Monkeys, Dayglow, Spacey Jane, Lime Cordiale and The Beatles, their sound has cultivated 27 million streams across DSPs worldwide from their catalogue including 'Sadie', 'Halfway Out' and ‘Head Still Hurts’ followed by ‘Disassociation’ and ‘Anakin’, each stronger than the last. 2023 kicked off a period of steady touring for The Rions, supporting Lime Cordiale, Boy & Bear, Pacific Avenue to festival appearances at Grapevine The Gathering, Yours & Owls, SPIN OFF, Party In The Paddock, Festival of the Sun and others.
