RUNNING TOUCH RELEASES A STRIPPED BACK VERSION OF HIS NEW SINGLE ‘SIGNS’
"I decided to work toward something cinematic rather than acoustic" says Running Touch about his new version
In partnership with Fender, as one of their carefully selected ’NEXT’ artists from around the world, Running Touch shares today a stripped down version of his latest single ‘Signs’. Showing off his vulnerable side, Running Touch switches out the energetic track for something that falls closer in line with that of James Blake and Chris Isaak. This is the first time Running Touch has released a stripped back version of one of his songs.
The depth of the Running Touch project and the talent behind Running Touch himself is becoming ever more apparent. Often masked as an electronic producer, yet more and more fans are beginning to learn the true Running Touch - a multi-faceted musician and creative, with an ever increasing list of capabilities.
Running Touch explains, “I learned a lot doing this version of signs. It’s my first time composing something with some cinematic roots. I re-recorded a lot of the elements of the song for the fun of it and to give it a new personality. It was actually meant to be an acoustic piece with acoustic guitar… but after the first day or so working on it, this lane felt a lot more natural to me.”
“To make it still have that indie presence there are small guitar licks scattered all over the record. I was inspired by “Side ways” with Citizen Cope and Santana for that. I wanted some 3rd party presence on this so I got Mitchell Clews (an incredible Australian session guitarist )to write a bunch of ideas to go off. I’ve always been interested in orchestral arrangements and the process and differences in producing that compared to what I usually do. So, I decided to work toward something cinematic rather than acoustic,” he added.
The stripped back live video of 'Signs', performed on a Fender Silver Stratocaster Series guitar, follows the release of the official video which was directed by Matt Sav and used a combination of video, photos and creative ingenuity to deliver a distorted trippy stop motion styled clip. Running Touch also released a video which focused on the percussion of ‘Signs’ via collaborative drum performance with musician’s Ocean Grove’s Sam Bassal, Northlane’s Nic Pettersen and Crooked Colours’ Lampy.
‘Signs’ recently premiered on triple j’s Good Nights, veering away from Running Touch’s more typically electronic-infused sound falling into an indie-pop-rock realm. With now over 100 million global streams of his music, ‘Signs’ has spanked attention from across the globe with support from the likes of Earmilk, NME, Happy Magazine, Music Feeds, and The Music, and more from around the world.
Within the last year, Running Touch has released a slew of singles with ODESZA’s label Foreign Family Collective as well as remixing ODESZA’s‘Late Night’. He hit #1 on the USA iTunes chart with single ‘Better Together’ with Hayden James, and secured a number of festival slots around the world including one of his last shows before the world shutdown for CERCLE with ZHU on top of a mountain in Japan,
