Melbourne based songwriter, producer and self-confessed bedroom-pop addict Evan Klar today releases his brand-new single I Do. The track is the first official single to be lifted off a new EP which is expected to be released later this year. Klar has just been announced as the very first official signing to German label Monchique (a division of Grönland Records), which is a new label set up by producer Tobias Kuhn (Milky Chance, The Living End, Dean Lewis), Label Manager Lenz Hein and musician/actor Herbert Grunermeyer.
The chilled-out electro-pop tune I Do, which premiered on the airwaves via triple j’s Good Nights show and online via Pilerats (READ THE FULL REVIEW) was co-produced with Nikolai Potthoff and Tobias Kuhn who co-produced Milky Chance’s Blossom. The track was produced with a broken bass guitar, pocket synth with verse vocals recorded on a mobile phone.
“’I Do’ was written last year about a fictional character who breaks free from her past and moves on in search of a better life.” says Klar of the track, “Very recently the song has become relevant to me and helped me through a rough patch. I hope it can do the same for others in this tough time."
Born in Perth and raised in Singapore, Klar later spent a number of years in London as a session player and was soon crossing Europe on significant stages, including Glastonbury, Big Chill, and The Great Escape. Evan ultimately felt disconnected when playing other people's music and decided to return to Australia to reconnect with family and pursue his own projects.
He moved to Melbourne in 2012 and released his 2017 debut LP Deepest Creatures, delivering us singles Barefoot and Sleep which have so far gained him over 1 million streams and counting. Klar has an outstanding reputation for his engaging and energetic live performances and has support the likes of Confidence Man and The Jungle Giants.
Over the last two years, he has painstakingly established Fall Back Studios in Flemington, an inclusive songwriting hub where he has fostered a close-knit music community. Klar has collaborated with an impressive (and rather long) list of international and Australian artists in early 2020 we'll also hear works Evan has co-written and produced for Kate Miller-Heidke, Austen, Essie Holt, Marloe, Elenore and many more.
2020 will be an exciting year for Evan’s collaborative releases, but it’s also time for Evan to release music of his own!
