ABBY BELLA MAY SHARES DEBUT EP I AM SENSITIVE

Today, Sydney-based dream pop artist Abby Bella May shares her debut EP I Am Sensitive. The EP is a confessional and earnest snapshot into Abby’s life, conveyed through seven buoyant and shimmering tracks. Featuring singles 'Bindii Patch', 'Wish We Could Be Friends' and 'ice cream', I Am Sensitive flutters between dreamy pop and danceable jams. Abby will be launching the EP tonight at the Oxford Art Factory in Sydney.

On the EP, Abby states; 'I am supaaaa excited to put this EP out into the world. The general theme for this EP are songs that I wrote when I was sad or sooky about something. In each song, I’m pretty much talking about the things that I think about that could go wrong, or things that are going wrong in my current life or friends life, hence the name "I Am Sensitive"... I am a sensitive sally, I have been since I was a kid, and I guess that’s what helps me write my music, I feel things pretty deeply and can connect with other peoples feelings and stories on another level, which is hard sometimes because it can feel like shit to feel everything so deeply but it’s also amazing because I get to make the songs I make out of it, and for me, that's definitely worth it.'.

Speaking on the production and creative process, Abby details, 'There are a couple of fictional stories in there like Spiderman Vs Superman and Alien, even though these songs are fictional I still find an emotional attachment to both of them. Oscar Sharah, my best friend and producer, pretty much co-wrote everything on the EP with me besides Bindi Patch which was co-written and produced by the very talented Taka Perry. Other amazing artists I collaborated with on the EP were Lola Scott and Pat Byrne, also my bestfwendzzzz. This EP means the start of something to me, it is really special to me because it's the first project I’ve ever put out and I’m genuinely just excited to get it out there for people to hopefully groove with and have as much fun with it as I did making it, I hope that comes through in the music.'

Sydney-based Abby Bella May combines floating vocals and lush production to form a unique, low-fi sound that is all her own. Inspired by artists like Clairo, Maggie Rogers, and Benee, Abby’s music is an intimate snapshot of youth, reflecting her life and the lives of those she is closest to. A confessional lyricist, May's songs embody relatability and authenticity, offering a window into the highs and lows of modern relationships: desiring friendship with no strings attached, rediscovering independence in love, and not giving any time to sexist and immature personalities she crosses paths with. Equal parts honest, endearing, and catchy, Abby's music speaks to both the mundane and the otherworldly, combining to create a fiercely personal body of work. The release of Abby’s last three singles, 'Bindii Patch', 'Drive-In Movie', and 'Wish We Could Be Friends' earned placement on The Zane Lowe Show, triple j’s and FBi. Abby has locked in a strong of support slots, including her recent show with Merci, Mercy last month and upcoming shows with Sycco.
