KWAME DROPS NEW VIDEO FOR SINGLE ‘TOMMY’S IN TROUBLE ft. CLYPSO + PHIL FRESH

Please, Get Home Safe EP out Oct 30th - Pre-Order Now

Today, Ghana via Sydney rapper and producer Kwame releases the cinematic visuals for his latest single,‘TOMMY’S IN TROUBLE ft. CLYPSO + Phil Fresh - the third track to be released from Kwame’s forthcoming EP, Please, Get Home Safe Out Friday October 30th – pre-order here.

The video, directed by Kwame and Zain Ayub, represents the internal struggle of an individual against society's oppressions and degradation of an individual’s rights and freedoms.

‘The Mother’ (CLYPSO) who is proud to have given birth to her child despite his unknown ailments has the ability to look past this and loves him as her own. ‘The Mother’ represents one side to the society in which they are accepting and nurturing of TOMMY and his potential.

‘The Father’ (Phil Fresh) represents the other side of society and is disturbed and disappointed with TOMMY’s disfigurement. He doesn’t accept TOMMY as “normal”. As a result, disowns TOMMY as his own son.

TOMMY (played by Kwame) is the representation of an individual who is caught between two minds of where he stands in the world. TOMMY wants to feel confident with his identity and finds it hard to manoeuvre in a world that doesn’t truly accept who he is or where he comes from.

During the climax, TOMMY escapes from his tomb, seeing only red, facing adversity in a negative way. With murderous intent, he meets his captors and seeks to be free of oppression. This breaks out into a comically absurd, prolonged struggle over a rolling pin. Upon realising that he is about to hurt his mother, he starts to come to terms with his actions, seemingly remembering and acknowledging the acceptance and kindness of The Mother, alluding to the fact that although the world may bear oppression, there is still beauty that exists within it.

‘TOMMY’S IN TROUBLE ft. CLYPSO + Phil Fresh’ follows ‘schleep.’ - a surprise flex track that dropped in March and further showcased the 22-year-old Ghanaian-Australian producer, writer, rapper, engineer’s unpredictability and flow. The track which won’t feature on Kwame’s upcoming EP has gone on to amassed over 1.5m streams and was performed live on day of release when U.S. rapper A$AP Ferg, whom Kwame supported in Melbourne, pulled the young artist up on stage during his sold-out Sydney show. Since releasing his debut single, ‘I Get It’ in 2016, his music has now been streamed over 19 million times globally.
