Having elevated through the ranks of the live scene off the back of impressive headline dates, festival spots at Yours and OwlsMountain Sounds and BIGSOUND; and shows supporting the likes of The SaboteursKirin J Callinan and City Calm Down, Johnny Hunter have been soaring. Named by The Music and the AU review as an Artist To Watch in 2020, the band back at the starting line, raring to go for a to-be ballistic year.

With a sound that evokes the emotional haze of Joy Division and  Sonic Youth while also firmly in the same lane as Straight ArrowsBody Type and Royal Headache, Johnny Hunter’s music conjures up images of post-punk glory and glam-pop drama. It’s a combination that has been turning heads in 2019 and this year with the Early Trauma EP, the band is seeking further impact to be made.

Brought to life at A Sharp Recording Studios in Sydney’s Southwest, and mixed by ARIA-winning engineer Adrian Breakspear (Gang of Youths), ‘Try As You May’ is a song that is hopeful for hope and lighter days.
The song is a cry for something better, a call for mercy; an honest admission to the fear of perpetual loneliness once a chapter finally comes to an end. Try as you may to escape your pain, but once the escapism fades the only thing to do is dance in the purgatory you find yourself in.”
