A.GIRL DROPS VIDEO FOR ‘LOLA’

After the recent release of single ‘Lola’, today A.GIRL drops the accompanying powerful video. The talented artist won FBi’s ‘Next Big Thing’ award and was featured in Taka Perry’s captivating Like A Version on triple j, before sliding across the bench from R&B to hip hop with ‘Lola’.

The visuals are directed by Ben Develin of Mude Studios in collaboration with Red Scope Films. Supported by Campbelltown Arts Centre’s (C-A-C) Conscious program, the video reveals the ‘side of ourselves we fear but is a necessary part of our whole’.

The clip begins with A.GIRL’s alter ego Lola, strong, powerful and channelling godfather-esque vibes. As the video moves on we start to see some vulnerability in Lola and her facade slowly falls. “I'm afraid to die”. When the track shifts gears to a chilled coda her lyrics are laced with feminist defiance - “I don’t like it when you tell me I can’t, just because of what’s between my knees”. What appears as a one take video despite no obvious edit spots, we're left with Lola in her safe place showing her soft yin side, devoid of her tough exterior and surrounded by Maori ferns and wearing her most treasured piece of jewellery. “You can call me Lola when I walk up in the room”.

Lola’ follows on from previous singles ‘All Over You, 'Play and ‘2142’, which saw A.GIRL pick up support from triple j , triple j unearthed, community radio and key media tastemakers.

Lola’ is A.GIRL’s first single drop since winning Next Big Thing at FBI Radio’s 2020 SMAC Awards. She also previously won triple j unearthed’s Listen Out festival slot, was profiled as a triple j unearthed Feature Artist, and featured in Ticketmaster’s ones-to-watch in 2020.
