HIATUS KAIYOTE SHARE NEW SONG "CHIVALRY IS NOT DEAD" TAKEN FROM FORTHCOMING ALBUM MOOD VALIANT OUT JUNE 25 VIA BRAINFEEDER RECORDS / NINJA TUNE

Today, twice Grammy-nominated, Melbourne-based group Hiatus Kaiyote share a new song from their forthcoming album Mood Valiant, out via Brainfeeder Records / Ninja Tune. The third single from the album, "Chivalry Is Not Dead" talks about the bizarre mating rituals of leopard slugs (they turn fluorescent) and seahorses (they lock tails and dance).

The group's singer Nai Palm explains further: “After we did Choose Your Weapon, we had to make radio edits of our songs, and all of our shit is like 6 or 7 minutes long! So ‘Chivalry’ was me fucking with the ‘hit record’ formula. I’m gonna write a song that's 3:40 long, and it’s about sex, but I’m gonna make it fucking weird. Examples from the natural world that are fucking with the status quo.”

“Chivalry Is Not Dead” follows previously-released singles “Red Room” and “Get Sun” featuring legendary Brazilian arranger Arthur Verocai, that received acclaim globally from Pitchfork, NME, Rolling Stone, The Fader and more, as well as airplay support across Double J, triple j and community radio stations. As part of Record Store Day, “Get Sun” received a 12” release, available for purchase exclusively across Australia and Japan in participating retailers on Record Store Day on Saturday, June 12.

Hiatus Kaiyote is Naomi “Nai Palm” Saalfield (guitar, vocals), Paul Bender (bass), Simon Mavin (keys), and Perrin Moss (drums). Their new album, Mood Valiant, is the follow up to their 2015 album Choose Your Weapon, which Rolling Stone described as "a stunning step up". The new project comes after being sampled on songs by The Carters (Beyonce & Jay-Z), Kendrick Lamar, Anderson .Paak, Chance The Rapper, and Drake—with whom Nai Palm also collaborated with on his Scorpion album. Additionally, the band have received co-signs from Kehlani, Doja Cat and Virgil Abloh, among others.

Hiatus Kaiyote recently announced their Mood Valiant Australian tour, where audiences across the country will be among the first to experience the highly anticipated record. Playing at some of the most beloved venues in Melbourne, Newcastle, Sydney, Canberra, Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane, tickets are available now and moving fast with additional shows added in Melbourne and Adelaide. The band were also recently announced as the headliners for Astral People's 10th Birthday as part of 2021's Vivd LIVEprogram and they will also play the rescheduled Bluesfest in Byron Bay come October. Visit Hiatus Kaiyote's Official Store for more information.

The completion of Mood Valiant coincided with the COVID pandemic. In the Great Pause, the band found more time to tweak, and more time to create. The ups and downs, the starts and stops of the process, inform the very name of the album, Mood Valiant, an LP that symbolises the act of love, of courage, of altered perspective, of sister-and-brotherhood. Listen to "Chivalry Is Not Dead" today and stay tuned for more from Hiatus Kaiyote coming soon.
