SAMPOLOGY SHARES NEW SINGLE 'MEMORIES IN FLIGHT'

Today, Meanjin/Brisbane producer Sampology shares his expansive new single 'Memories In Flight' alongside the announcement of his new album Regrowth, out September 3rd. Today's track showcases Sampology's masterful production capabilities, building flourishing, intricate soundscapes through a combination of electronic and organic elements. The track arrives alongside an official music video, splicing archive super 8 footage with hand drawn animation.

On the track, Sampology shares; '‘Memories in Flight’ introduces people to the environment and mood of my forthcoming ‘Regrowth’ album. Organic, percussive with thick instrumentation is the soothing backdrop. Everything in this song was recorded in my home studio or on my travels and began with naïve harp improvisation, evolving to include vibraphone, choir, synths piano & more.'

On the music video, he continues; 'During the 2020 lockdown I went through my late Grandad's archive of super 8 film footage and stumbled across footage of myself at 8 years old, flying over a city through the magic of green screen technology. This short scene became the spirit of this song, the music video and the forthcoming album artworks.'

Later in 2021, Sampology will release the Regrowth LP - an album that his last two EPs have built towards. Despite his love for sampling - with the exception of the Mariana Ingold sample on the opening song on 'Regrowth (Peace Lily)' - all of the samples you hear on the album are recorded from scratch either in his home studio or on his travels over the past four years. Regrowth has string quartets, woodwind, full 20-piece choirs, vibraphones, double bass, various pianos and synths.

As an artist, Sampology’s influences are broad and varied - from his local music scene which is abundant in jazz alumni bending the rules with club producers to readings from philosophers and environmentalists. On Regrowth, collaborators include Allysha Joy, Seven Davis Jr, James Chatburn, Silent Jay and a wide array of instrumentalists around Brisbane and overseas. The majority of Regrowth was written and recorded during the Australian bushfires in the summer of 2019, and the album’s title came from reflecting on the environment during this time.

Sampology is a Producer, DJ, radio host for Worldwide FM and vinyl enthusiast since his teens, based in Meanjin/Brisbane, Australia. As a boy, he spent his weekends singing in the choir at St John’s Cathedral and by his mid-teens he had discovered vinyl and a love for sample heavy music - early Native Tongues, The Avalanches, disco and soul. Sampling dance music made a huge impression on Sampology - indeed, his performer name is a nod to this early influence of sampling.

Sampology’s start in Brisbane venues began at 17, evolving to interstate & eventually overseas travel to DJ & perform in Europe & UK, America & Asia. Over the past six years, he has organically progressed to producer - of his own stunning EP releases Natural Selections (2016) and Mt Glorious (2018) as well as producing Tiana Khasi’s Meghalaya EP and First Beige’s Mirrors EP. His position in the Brisbane music community led to Gilles Peterson inviting him to join the Worldwide FM family in 2019 and he has hosted a monthly show on the global station in the two years since.
