Praise for Church & AP

'the only place Church & AP are going is up.'
- Complex AU

'rap’s latest innovators'
- The Line of Best Fit

'Equal parts nonchalant falsetto R&B, humid drum machine funk, and confident, clear-eyed punchlines, it’s an earworm sing-along with moody undertones.'
- Dummy

Today, NZ hip hop game changers Church & AP share their brash new single ON!ON!ON!, taken from Side B of their album AT THY FEET, out May 7th. Made to be played on max volume, the haunted instrumental shows off off-the-wall flows from Church in the first verse, complimented by laid back punchlines from AP in the second. The combination exhibiting why the duo are 'built different'.

On the single, Church details; 'ON!ON!ON! is just us backing ourselves. We know our product is quality and we’re not afraid to brag about it when we want to. “If you disagree you’re a motherf***ing liar”. And that’s how we feel about that…'

The duo have also shared their powerful short film, 'AT THY FEET'. Complimenting their two-sided album of the same name, Church & AP worked alongside video director Oscar Keys to bring the album to life in visual form. Nina Simone famously stated that an artists only duty is to 'reflect the times'. This is exactly what Church & AP wish to achieve. Developing art that gives you real insight into the lives of others.

Undoubtedly one of the most exciting acts to emerge from Aotearoa’s rich and vibrant music scene, Church & AP have taken the industry by storm. At just 19 and 20 years of age, and staunchly independent, Church & AP have the world at their feet. The pair came together as a duo through taking part in local community hall music programs in Auckland’s Mount Roskill and Te Atatu, under the watchful eye of fellow Kiwi hip-hop artists such as Melodownz and Tom Scott and local producer Iron Will. From there, the duo’s distinctive and self-assured blend of southern/UK rap fused with grime has done all the talking, with songs such as their social media hit ‘Introvert’ winning over fans from the ground up. Church’s video performance on David Dallas’ famed Red Bull’s 64 Bar Series; coupled with their killer set at this year’s The Others Way festival, Northern Bass as well opening slots for Saba and Genesis Owusu only served to build the hype. They sold out their debut headline show in Auckland, played in the United Kingdom, a nationwide headlining tour and every summer music festival culminating in the sold out SIX60 show at Western Springs

After being declared Aotearoa’s ‘Best Hip Hop Artist’ at the 2020 Aotearoa Music Awards, Church & AP embarked on their most ambitious project yet. A two sided album titled ‘AT THY FEET’. Here, Church & AP experimented with new sounds while also addressing a list of important topics such as racial profiling and gentrification in their neighbourhoods. Church & AP use their platform as musicians to start dialogue on greater social issues in Aotearoa. 'AT THY FEET’ itself takes time to delve into the psyche of pacific youth. Sharing the unique perspectives and sentiments that are held by a new generation. Church & AP haven’t failed to deliver yet – the next chapter has them in their own studio and back in the community making amazing music.
