CARLA WEHBE REVEALS VIDEO FOR 'DON'T TELL ME' - DIRECTED BY MATT SAV
Rising Sydney singer, songwriter, musician and producer Carla Wehbe today reveals the video for her debut single ‘Don’t Tell Me’. Set inside an 80’s utopian dream world, borne from her very own obsession of the era, Carla Wehbe and director Matt Sav have created a nostalgic visual that is impeccably aligned with the song’s overall themes.
Shot with super 8 film to harness the gritty realness of true vintage, the ‘Don’t Tell Me’ clip, like the song itself, balances an infectious self-assurance with a hefty hand of frustrated angst and, as her debut video, holds a real sentiment for the young artist.
“The video was shot at my grandparents house with my mum and cousin featuring as my parents and my dog Astro making an appearance to add a real sentimental edge for me personally. We also used our family friend’s awesome 70’s Chrysler Valiant. I am a vintage lover and collector so all the props are my belongings that usually stay stashed in my basement,” Carla explains.
With the two artists working closely alongside one another, Carla explains that her concepts came to life more fully than she ever imagined with Matt behind the lense. “I really wanted to bring out the frustration expressed in ‘Don’t Tell Me’ while still keeping a tone of positivity despite hardship. I think we managed to get the feelings of the song across and we had so much fun creating it!” Carla explains.
Matt adds to this, “We really hope this video will resonate with young people who feel the need for some space from the people closest in their lives. Jumping in a car for a drive, a skateboard for a skate or or just running full pelt down the street can make your worries all drop away and you can feel that sense of freedom that we all lust after.”
