ANGIE MCMAHON ANNOUNCES ‘PIANO SALT’ EP OUT FRIDAY OCT 2

+ RECIPIENT OF THE LEVI’S MUSIC PRIZE

Angie McMahon is thrilled to announce the release of her recently performed Piano Salt EP, due for release on Friday 2 October 2020, and that she is one of the recipients of the Levi’s Music Prize, in partnership with BIGSOUND, amongst some brilliant company. This round was awarded to Angie McMahon, L-Fresh The Lion, Mo’Ju, Jesswar and Eliza and the Delusionals. This is the third time the independent Melbourne artist has applied for the prize and she is honoured for her work to be recognised amongst the other incredible local artists.

“It’s going to go towards helping me promote a new EP that I made in lockdown. I’m so grateful to have a prize that will help me to keep making music when we can’t be touring. At the moment I’m writing songs and remaining involved in art and music, I think those things are really important to help us get through this and stay connected with our feelings. I want to say thank you so much to everybody supporting me - fans, listeners, Levi’s. Thank you so much.”  - Angie McMahon

To celebrate the moment, Angie is excited to have Levi’s premiering a live lullaby piano version of Angie’s debut and hit song ‘Slow Mover’. This version is taken from Angie’s recent online piano concert filmed at The Perch Recording Studio in Castlemaine, which accrued an audience of thousands globally and allowed Angie to continue to provide work for members of her creative team. Together, ticket holders assisted in raising $2,000 to go towards Clothing the Gap’s ‘Free The Flag’ campaign.

The Piano Salt EP is a project that takes Angie back to her humble beginnings and is a combination of reimagined piano versions of Angie’s ARIA-nominated record Salt, as well as a couple of her favourite covers by Lana Del Rey and Bruce Springsteen.

“Piano is the first instrument I learnt and the one that made me first love singing. My favourite piano song when I was young was k.d lang’s cover of Hallelujah. So this EP feels like a return to my piano-cover-loving inner kid.  It’s been a really nice creative opportunity to recreate the feeling of some bigger songs off my first record, give them a new life, and cover some of my favourite songs too. It gave me something to do when we went into quarantine. The creative process also helped me shed some fear around sounding too cheesy on the piano, or too sad - I realised that doesn’t matter so much because I just love to play and sing.”  - Angie McMahon

Piano Salt is now available to pre-order and pre-save, with limited edition green vinyl and visuals inspired by the Australian bush and some new merchandise bundles for fans, including baby and kids merch, designed and hand-drawn by Angie.

Angie McMahon - Piano Salt out Friday 2 October via AWAL Recordings (World) and Dualtone (North America).
