JUICE WEBSTER SHARES NEW EPMORE THAN REACTION

‘With a rhythm like the tides, and its hook repeated like a comforting mantra, Juice Webster’s slow-burning new song is incessantly beautiful’

Today, Melbourne songwriter Juice Webster shares her compelling new EP More Than Reaction. Emotionally affecting and introspective, the EP was produced with Juice’s partner Simon Lam (Kllo) in Blairgowrie during the early stages of 2020, when a large portion of Australia was up in flames. In its recording, you can almost feel the tension between the hazy environment they found themselves in and the existential terror that was unfolding. Across five arresting tracks, including last year's 'Let The Dog Out' and February's 'Wanna Be Held', Juice explores the anxieties that come with simply being, and the comfort we find in
those around us.

On the new EP, Juice shares; ''More Than Reaction' as a whole is about feeling sort of belittled and thrashed about by my own existence. It took me a while to try and find a common thread between the subject matter of these songs, as I didn’t write them with the intention of them belonging to the same body of work. But when I was thinking about the songs individually, I found that in their own ways, each song was kind of examining or zero-ing in on a different way in which I felt small and at the mercy of my surroundings. At the time when writing these songs I was very much feeling like I was constantly just reacting to things that were happening around me and I found myself wondering who I would be if there wasn’t anything to react to.'

Alongside the EP Juice shares the powerful, intimate music video for lead single 'Stupid Girl'. On 'Stupid Girl', Juice shares; 'This song is the oldest song on the EP; I wrote it in 2018. When I was in high school, we had assemblies dedicated to giving us tips on how to feel and be safer when we were out at night, but it was becoming clearer and clearer, with each story in the news, that despite doing all the things we’re taught to do from such a young age, we’re stupid for thinking it’ll make any difference.'

'The songs on ‘More Than Reaction’ slowly unfurl around Juice Webster's vocals until they reach their emotional peak. The result is a softly devastating collection that lingers long past its runtime.'
- NME

'A beautiful build, given weight with that guitar, and the vocals working to ground the song in a beautiful loop'
- Zan Rowe, Double J

'that thick emotion her voice crackles with once again shining through with her own project.'
- Pilerats

Often found curled up with her guitar in bed, on the couch or in any other comfortable space within her home, Juice Webster writes from a place that seeks to find meaning in the world around her. After being brought up on a healthy diet of artists such as Nick Cave, Aimee Mann, Elliott Smith and The Cranberries, it’s no wonder that Juice’s own brand of alt-folk is both emotionally and lyrically driven.

Despite considering herself to be always growing and changing as an artist, Juice’s songwriting holds an affecting quality, maturity and depth which delivers wisdom beyond her years. A sound that is uniquely hers. Her lyrics linger, her harmonies hold weight and the moods she casts through the moments she recounts permeate their way through the very core of its listener.

Arriving fully formed in late 2019 with the independent release of her debut EP You Who Was Myself, Juice channelled her energy into connecting to her local community of supporters, friends, fans and family. Now, after the release of its two lead singles, 'Let The Dog Out' and 'Wanna Be Held', Juice welcomes the release of her sophomore EP More Than Reaction. It’s a body of work that examines the different ways in which she feels small and at the mercy of her surroundings and place in the world.
